I left my Discovery TD5 yesterday and went back to it this afternoon, the remote locking works fine, but the ignition won't turn at all. Steering lock is on and absolutely stuck. Any help or ideas gratefully received!:(

My Disco does this occasionaly, I guess it's when it's crept forwards slightly (parked on slight incline) and 'locked' the steering to the steering lock. Try turning the steering wheel slightly, both ways, while turning the ignition key.

Cheers - it is parked on an incline and have tried taking the pressure off the steering but no joy I am afraid....

Take great care NOT to apply force to the key or you will break it.

It should be a case of making quite sure the key is all the way IN, wiggling the key as required, then making sure there is NO strain on the steering column, by wiggling the steering wheel slightly and gently as you attempt to operate the key.

The centre boss of the lock (the cylinder with slot you stuff the key into) should press in and out about an eighth of an inch by finger pressure even with no key in it. It MUST be pressed in that much with the key or it won't turn.

Good point, which I forgot to mention, thanks. ;)

Isn't that the good thing with forums?

Someone posts an answer, someone else adds to it and before you know it a problems shared between any number of people and gets solved easier than struggling along alone on your back under the things ... Long live Forums ... ;)
