indicators

hi all,before we start i have done a search but cant find what could be causing the problem,,help apreciated,,my landy 90 flasher unit went faulty i had to tap it for it to work,prob got moisture in it,i orders new flasher unit,,the problem is when nothing is on the unit clicks fast,,all the indicators work when used and the hazzards,but the towing light comes on ,on the dash with them,,when in use the flasher unit clicks normal,when nothing in use the flasher unit clicks fast,,like i say i did a search but couldnt find out what the problem could be,its doing my head in,l.o.l..

Bad earth at the back cluster.

No, i'd say its in the rear light cluster, behind the triangular metal panel that hides the ugly spagetti wiring. Either that or your towing electrics are wet.

Oh..hang on...mine did summat similar..the rain was running into the actual flasher unit behind the fuse box..i looped it over the front as a temp measure til i found the leak..you had a lot of rain recently?

got stuck in lake at parkwood,think thats why the old flasher unit needed a few taps,,the symptoms are with the new flasher unit just came toaday,plugd it in and get the above symptoms storm

i dont run a tow bar either storm

yes thats right storm,then when the indicators or hazzards are on the trailor light on the dash comes on with them,when nothing on the unit makes fast clicking noise,but no lights come on the dash.just the unit clicking

I reckon you've still got damp wiring...the bit where it flashes on the dash with trailer light i wouldn't worry about, its actually the law that you have that when towing, how they'd test that on the mot i dont know...there was a thread about this a while ago.

Make sure the connections on the flasher unit are good too.

do you think i could have wrong unit ,though it is a britpart s##itpart one,or maybe a faulty new flasher unit,that clicking when nothings on would drive me insane ,the other flasher didnt do that,could be a case for hairdryer round the wiring,though waters prob in the harness.thanks again

Just play with connections to start with and hold unit at different angles..see if it stops clicking. Its a 2 min job to remove, do you know anyone close that u can swap units with to see if its that?

Drive up to a motor factors, borrow a flasher unit...

had a play.the flasher unit still clicks when nothing on but does not work the hazzards now and makes a stange noise when the hazzards are on ,faulty flasher units my guess storm.but it is a guess until like you say i try another flasher unit

ey up storm,re solderd connections in old flasher unit after taking it apart..now got indicators tho they do flash a bit fast,hazards work as normal and the flasher unit dosnt make contact when nothing on unlike the new one i got,must still have bad earth like you said for the indicators to be flashing fast
