I'm just in the process of getting my series 3 petrol ready for it's mot and my indicators have started to act up.
turn left and everythings okey dokey, but turn right and the rear light comes on permanently and flashes weakly and the front does nowt!. I've checked the front bulb and its ok.
Could it be the flasher unit or is it possibly a short somewhere?

I'd say that if you've got a standard flasher unit, then that's not the problem because the flasher unit has only one wire going in and one going out, so the current takes the same pash through the device regardless of whether it's the left hand or right hand indicators that are flashing, so the fact that all is well when you indicate left suggests that the flasher unit is working properly. I think you might be right that there is a short somewhere, or it could be a bad earth.

disconnect and clean up the earth connection for the front right indicator. If it's still not working get the multimeter out and with the right hand indicator turned on, check the voltage at various points of the circuit from the flasher switch to earth until you locate the problem.

Ah! that makes sense (about the flasher unit) Do you reck it's most likely to be somewhere between the front light and the spagetti mess of wires behind the dash? Or could it still be somewhere going to the rear?

Theres a load of bullet conncetors in the loom on the front panel where the rad is, the wing can be removed with is associated wiring you see, undo the tape and find these, if its not a bad earth, a manky bulb holder then one of these could well be dicky, please dont use choc block or scotch locks you'll regret it.

I'm pretty sure the problem lies somewhere in the part of the circuit to the front right indicator. First of all I'd remove the front right bulb, turn the indicator on (right) and use a multimeter to check the voltage on both terminals in the bulb holder. One should be at 0v (the earth) and one should alternate between 0 and 12v or above. If you're not seeing 12v then you've got a bad connection or broken wire somewhere between the bulb holder and the turn indicator switch. Check the continuity between the earth terminal in the bulb holder and the negative terminal of the battery. If there's no continuity then you've got a bad earth connection, which will probably be solved by disconnecting the earth lead from the body, and sand papering the connections to the body.

Excellent advice as always, many thanks. I'm off out now to try it and I'll let you know the outcome:)

Yup, it was the wiring between the bulb holder and the connectors near the rad. I just replaced the whole bulb holder and wires from my other landy, which is currently being dismantled.
Many thanks for all your help guys.:D:D
