OK, yes, metal ring attaches to the steering wheel , pegs are vertical.

blue ring is attached as part of the indicator / switch module. , again blue ring slots vertical, with the "arrow" facing towards the indicator stalk.

I knew there was a peg involved somewhere between the wheel and the blue collar

Just to let everyone know. The metal ring arrived today. I fitted it and the indicators are now working and cancelling perfectly. Many thanks for all of your help
