Afternoon all, new member to this forum so be gentle!

I've recently bought a TD5 2000 model. I'm replacing a few bits and bobs but I can't figure out what the problem is with the indicator cancellation. The blue collar works when I turn it by hand however it just spins on the steering column. Is there a way that it should be connected to the steering column so that it will move when the column turns? At the moment it's a very loose fit.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Mikey63 and welcome to Loonyzone

Has the steering wheel been changed for a non standard unit?

I failed my Irish NCT (MOT) due to the fact that my steering wheel boss was not cancelling the turn switch. The garage suggested that I return with the original steering wheel and, once fitted, all was well.

It may not be your problem, but on the other hand it might help.

Thanks Alan, When I bought the car it did have a non standard wheel and the indicators weren't cancelling. I didn't like the non standard wheel so I've bought a standard replacement wheel. The wheel doesn't have any effect on the blue sleeve as it doesn't come into contact with it, I'm not sure if it should?

From what I can tell, the blue collar is integral with the indicator unit itself, I'll phone the local parts supplier and see what they say.
Cheers

IIRC the blue collar has a peg which locates in the steering wheel so it turns with the wheel.

Thanks for the response but my blue collar doesn't have a peg and the replacement land rover steering wheel doesn't have a socket for a peg to fit into. It's a 2000 model. Am I missing something?

Hi Mike,

Iirc, the ring fits into the steering wheel and actuates the indicator cancellation ring.

If you want I can go and get some photos of mine.

Cheers

Thanks Neilly,
I've just ordered one of the rings, I understand that the black ring will fit inside the steering wheel and locate with the blue ring. I'm hoping this is sorted now.
Many thanks to everyone for their help!

@Mikey 63

OK, yes, metal ring attaches to the steering wheel , pegs are vertical.

blue ring is attached as part of the indicator / switch module. , again blue ring slots vertical, with the "arrow" facing towards the indicator stalk.

Cheers
