Indicator cancel issue

I didn't bother to read all the posts but I have the same issue and googled it some time ago. There's nothing you can do apart from live with it or change the switch and hope that the replacement doesn't have the same problem. BTW, the switch installed in my vehicle is a Lucas item, not a Britsh*t one and yet it has made me blaspheme on many an occasion.

Checked the relay ? A swap out may show a fault ...

Mine too! Re-fitted a couple of times, no luck, but was thinking along the lines of the rubber shroud pulling it close to the ‘cancel’ click so will try the dangle check.....ooo err ......

Could well be the stalk has got bent towards the right turn position over the years.....

Mind you, it’s done this for about 6 years now, so I clearly don’t see it as high priority .....;-). Cheers, A

I spent ages on this fault and eventually cured it by bending the stalk down a little, which stopped it cancelling itself while turning the wheel clockwise on right turns.

Believe me, it worked. I looked at everything including fitting a new switch, and even down to altering the shape of the cancelling mechanism with a Stanley knife.

I pulled the rubber shroud off and... it worked! No more early cancelling! I could live without the shroud on, but now I’ve got to fit the new switch I bought to sort it ( headlamp flasher is broken too, so not a total waste of money). If the new switch does the same I’ll try bending the stalk a little.

It probably will. Carefully bend the stalk down a little to reduce pressure from the rubber shroud when indicating right.

After altering my stalk it sits horizontally or at 3 o’clock when in the centre position, if that helps.

If it needs bending I might be adjust it to be 6 hours earlier, so it’s at 9 o’clock

Interesting that so many have the same issue. Now the new stalk has been in place a week or so, it seems to have cured itself. Gentle right turns don't cancel the indicator early, even going all the way round a roundabout. I'll have to try a couple of sharp turns to be sure. If not, good to know that bending the stalk will help.

I now have indicators that cancel and wipers that work on intermittent setting. It's like driving a Rolls-Royce.

(I had to drive my boss and his wife to a charity dinner on Friday night using the firm's Mercedes V250D executive people-mover, about £60k worth. It was a pleasure to get back in the Landy for the late drive home after I had dropped them off. Some things you can't buy.)

I would remove the column shroud and adjust the switch mounting bracket angle slightly rather than trying to bend the stalk.

The Land Rover failed its MoT today on a worn nearside TRE. My garage had it fixed and retested within 2 hours, and he re-centred the steering at the same time. I asked him and he said the worn TRE had meant the steering was off-centre, but he has centralised it. The right-hand indicator is now working perfectly. The wheel was only a few degrees out (less than one spline on the column), but it seems that was enough to mess up the cancelling mechanism. Happy days.

That’s interesting, mine could well be a couple of splines out, I’ll have a look at the weekend.

There’s no adjustment.
Grip the innermost part of the stalk with pliers or an adjustable spanner to reduce stress on the actual switch, and bend the stalk down so it sits horizontally.

My stalks were moving slightly, MOT guy put it down as an advisory (column stalk switches loose) I moved the bracket back to the centre position and tightened it up.
