Increasing security on my Landy

Hi All,

I want to increase the security of my doors to make it tougher to get in. I am also working on a solution for the windows/glass but I will keep this separate.

For this I have been roaming for potential solutions and the one that I think is best is to put YALE P400S at the doors - this is a big lock designed for delivery tracks (DHL, etc....) back doors.



See attached the measures of the lock and where I intend to put it on my Landy (orange bits) - don't see any other places where this could fit given the size of the lock




Would appreciate your thoughts on:

1) the idea in general
2) the best location where the lock can be fitted to ensure these are well anchored but don't damage any critical part of the car

I have seen tree sliders that attach to the doors just above the "barrel" profile as well as the rear tub.
These have incorporated additional locks and look fairly robust.
Not sure I would want locks like you have shown with padlocks rattling around but each to their own........
Not sure on the best place to fix them to as I have 2 piece doors so am not sure on where window runners, lock mechanisms etc are located in the door.

Oh. Just seen that you have a 110 station wagon. In which case my suggestion about the locking tree sliders doesn't apply
Unless you are leaving valuables in sight I think I would just go with a steering wheel and pedal lock as a visible deterrent.
Maybe have a look on overlander sites or expedition equipment providers for alternative security solutions....

Anything to improve security is good. The idea is to make the thief look at your Landy and think, oh that is too much trouble, and move on.
On holiday in Scotland last week somebody took a look at my 110 in the middle of the night (the side window had been wiped with a hand)
I guess they saw the pedal lock and disc lock and cleared off.

I have a similar thing on my landy - but I've used combination barrel locks with the male part on the door and the female part on the door post. Like anything would take a crow bar too long to get them off but it's a visual deterrent and represents the first in a series of security measures.

Anything that's a bit different and unexpected is good in my book. Just make sure you layer up hard.

@payydg where have you fixed your locks? have yuo reinforced that bit of the car frame internally?

They are just below the door handles. To be honest, right now they are riveted on at some point I'm going to put a metal back plate and bolt them on. Saying that, a crow bar will still get them off in a min or two whether they are riveted or bolted.

Really this should be discussed in the secure unit, as scrots don't need to see discussion on how to stop a thief.

How to bypass it isn't.

But shirly discussing how to implement it also reveals how to bypass it?

If you say you take the keys out of the ignition then a thief knows to be prepared to hotwire.

Discussing and encouraging extra security is a good thing but you're right in so much as people need to be careful about how much they reveal.

In a perfect world there'd be perfect security and we could go into as much details as we like.

As it is we make do and be a little wary of how much is said.
