Guy's,

Not sure if this is at all relevant but spent one day of last weekend having to remove most of the tailgate trim and top spoiler to access my rear wiper that had rusted badly and had no water coming through.
I had not driven it till today and now my revs have jumped from 4-500rpm to 900-1000rpm on tick over.
Have done a search and cannot find anything similar although for the life of me I cannot see why this would be related.
I did have to keep switching her on and off and of course pressing the stalk to check the water flow, this at least 20 odd times.
Any ideas please

Thanks

2.0 Hippo,

No mate, did not have to turn her over just had to keep turning the key to full dash board lights and steering wheel in and out to get to the point of the pump working,
Does this help with any ideas

Thanks again

Hmmm ... not too sure mate

Can only think an ECU is a bit mixed up

Try disconnecting the battery for 15 mins

See if it clears it

Don't forget to reset steering angle sensor by turning full lock left and the right once you reconnect the battery

Good luck

Sorry Datatek always try to give as much info as poss. 4.4 v8 engine and she usually ticks over at 500rpm odd. I am going to try 2.0 hippo suggestions unless you have something else you might of thought of,

Thanks again for your input guy's

Idle for this engine should be 600 RPM plus or minus 50 RPM.

From the Workshop Manual :

Engine Idle Speed Control
An engine idle speed increase is requested if battery voltage decreases to less than 11.4 V. The speed increase
request is discontinued when battery voltage increases to more than 12.2 V again.

That would suggest either that the alternator is failing or the engine is idling too slowly to maintain voltage.

Segam injected Triumph motorcycles idle fast when the alternator starts to pack up for the above reason.

Guy's

Thanks for all your help on this one.
Would it be a good idea to put a multimeter on the battery and see weather I am getting 14v back from the alternator.
I would guess any less would indicate a problem, although if the revs are higher would it not give me a false reading,

Thanks to all again

The alternator output is regulated, you should see 14.2 to 14.6 volts at 2K rpm.

Thanks again Datatek,

Will try the multi meter test tomorrow if the weather holds, will post back when I can to update. If the multi meter reads ok I will also try 2.0 Hippo's idea and disconnect the battery for 15 mins to see if I can reset the ecu.

Cheers for all your input

Guy's,

Just to update for anyone that's interested, followed Datatek's advice and alternator all good at 14.3v returning.
Main problem and reason for the original post was the increased tick over issue. Still had it when starting again, so followed 2.0 Hippo's advice this time, and disconnected the battery for 15 mins.
Reconnected everything reset including of course the HDC issue and she is back to normal.

Result, and many thanks to the guy's mentioned:)
