Hello,
I own a P38 Range Rover 2.5 DSE (1998 model with BMW diesel engine & auto box), which is an absolute dream to drive.:)

I would like to know if anyone could recommend a suitable system to give increased performance (quicker acceleration), quicker gearchange (seems to take ages to change up a gear - sometimes revving to 4k in the lower of the auto gears) and increased mpg (if that's possible).
I've seen several chip systems on auction sites, but was looking for advice before spending some more cash.
Any help would be most helpful.
Thanks
Charliechop

EYOP charlie i just bought a 96 p38 manual box, mine a bit slow of the mark to but you get used to it after a while and drive accordingly, imne pulls ok but its slower than my classic with a perkins engine, once you get going no problem,i considered a chip but as my son said you never drive fast anyhow dad[cheeky bugger],its true but i wont admit it.YOU have to keep in mind its a 2ton motor with a 2.5 engine so you aint killed with power at best, now my old classic has a 3.0 perky ,4cyl in it +plus it a long stroke engine hence much more torque now that goes like a train, not fast mind but it pulls well, the bmw as you know is a 6cyl short stroke not the best motor for a rangie but there yer go yer pays yer money an takes yer choice my friend ,mind you i luv mine if i could just keep thr begger going it would be nice ,hmmmmmm,,,dave

you can do the basics yourself for free, decat and remove centrebox, nice cold air induction then up your boost to 20 psi(prefrably by means of a boost controller). them mods do make a noticable difference, thats where i started, then if you want to go further ring up diesel bob and ask for some upgraded injectors. now you thinking its gonna be dear but he only charges 25 quid plus the dreaded for bigger nozzles and lower break pressures which incidently will cure any hot start problems you might have, then for a finish and nice healthy 200 + bhp go for a remap by reidy remaps. he only charges 250 quid and gives you a dyno print out after.

Or simply fit a plug in Power Box from Rimmer Bros :D Makes a noticable difference and you can take it with you to a newer P38 if need be:D:D

where do i find diesel bob ??

got a 2.5dse which is ok but wouldn't mind a bit more go..!!

PSI box (or other brands for that matter) is a cheap, effective and simple plug-in chip you can do yourself that offers significant improvement in drivability for zero hassle. Diesel bob has a great website that goes into detail on some of this. www.dieselbob.co.uk

The re-mapped chips have more scope for improvement and are a more sophisticated solution but are more expensive and the guys that do them will make a well proven argument for an intercooler upgrade too. But thats more dosh again and they need your RR for a day too!

You pay your money you make your choice!!

sorry for the delay boys, i been busy burning some oil. ;)
providing i dont drive like i stole it mine returns a nice healthy 35 mpg on a run and around 28 round town, cant complain considering i can out drag my old mates 4.6 rr waving on the way past. it does help me though coz he gas to stop every couple of miles to top the coolant up.:hysterically_laughi oil burner for the win here.

what you got done to yours mod wise

every thing on the list i put up there but my exhaust is straight through front to rear and i got a kevlar clutch made up for it as well because the standard one (6 month old borg beck) slipped as soon as the turbo spooled up. power wise its fooking brilliant, its revs right through to the rev limiter in 5th and tops out at 130 damn nye. there is some black ****e thats deposited out the back though, nothing the butler cant handle though.;)

35 on a run and 28 round town? Jesus! I'm lucky if I get 23 round town and 28 on a run! Still, didn't buy it for economy!
