Hi All

Just been looking at some in fuel additives designed to clean the injection system etc. anyone know if they are pants or worth the money?
If so any suggestions on what to get for my v8?

I've found filling the tank with Shell's best petrol a little more expensive but very good at cleaning the engine. My old P*****t 405 had a shagged lamda sensor and ran like a complete dog until I started filling it with that or Texaco's finest. The 405 has gone now but I fill the motorbike and my Freely V6 once in 3 or 4 with one or the other and they do seem to keep pretty clean. "Honest John", the Saturday Telegraph's motoring Agony Aunt swears by the stuff and claims it's cheaper because in the long term it gives you more MPG.

In these straitened times I can't quite bring myself to use it on every fill to prove that, but in your position I would certainty run a couple of tanks of that petrol through and see what improvement it made. Unless you have a diesel. Then you're f*cked.

Used diesel engine flush last time I changed the oil and seems to have made a difference to the performance (if you can call it that ;) ) although I wouldnt use it on a high mileage motor, but then it could have been the fact I changed the fuel filter and cleaned the sedimenter at the same time.

One thing I did notice was the oil in the sump hasnt immediately gone black like it used to.

I use veg oil ... cleans as good as any diesel cleaner I've ever know, to the extent that you need to change the fuel filter a couple of times when you first use it before it stops clogging up!!

I use one of the Millers Diesel Aditives. My TD5 wasnt smoking or anything, but thought i would treat it as i had heard good things about it. People like TD5 Promote it and alot of good reviews on the Web.

Just starting using it, run 1 tank through. Doesnt seem to do much Noise etc, however i fitted De-EGR Kit (one of the full valve removement ones) at a similar time and at my last fill up (bearing in mind i fitted the EGR kit at about 3/4 tank), i got 36MPG, oh and i had the a/c on for some of it.

Before i was getting about 33MPG, so could be doing something. The EGR would hopefully be helping with the Additional MPG, but an increase of about 10% seems good.

My journeys are all the same, as my mileage is about mainly commuting (approx 350 a week)

You can get a Petrol and Diesel one, got mine in Halfrauds, about £12, same as web but without the delivery charge.

:5biagree:

EDIT: just re-read OPs original post and would like to add DONT add veg oil to your fuel tank if it is a V8

Heh, jeez yes. Or no ... no, definitely no ... ;)

Sorry about that .. consider me a feckin' numpty .. ;)
