Hi guys & gals,

this is a question that has perplexed me for many years, even when I was running my previous Landy several years ago.

How do you connect up any electronic gadgets in the cab of a Series III?

There's no cigarette lighter, or 'Auxiliary Power Connector' as it's now so-called. I don't smoke, unlike the landy, but how would I go about plugging in any of those cigarette lighter powered gadgets & gizmos?

I know there are those two connectors on the dash, but I don't have the faintest idea how they can be used.

Help me Obi-Landy Kenobi, you're my only hope...

Go to your local Maplins and ask them for the following
1. A set of banana plugs (One Red one Black)
2. A cig lighter socket
3. Some good size wire
4. Stick the lot together.

Plug it in to the sockets in the dash
And bob's yours mothers brother

or just run a wire from the fuse box (or tupperware box) to yer fag lighter which you can place to suit yerself. oh and dint fergit to earth it

Cheers.

I thought it would be something like that.

And if you want to know what I'm thinking of connecting, it's a small heater for the g/f who isn't impressed by my new cold toy :)

I just figured connecting a small cab heater this way would be easier and cheaper than trying to fix the Landy heater (which doesn't work at all).

i've just done some additional wiring for my series 3, put a 4 cig lighter socket (halfords), fog lights and interior light 'borrowed' from the local TA through some new switches mounted to the dask. Plus an extra switch for anything else i might think of. Took a feed from the power running up to the test points and earthed to the back of the clocks and all run through a blade fuse box hidden in the dash, easy to get at and dry (ish) seems to be working ok at the min!Only cost bout 10quid for the fuse box and socket already had the wire from when i set it on fire (not!!!!! my fault! Previous owner used piece of card instead of a nut to secure a wire!!!!!) Dunno if this might help?

try the local scrappy. in lots of cars these days the ciggy lighter has never been used.
so you can get a virtually new one for pennies or even nowt!
a few bits of wire and you can do the whole thing for zilch.

Cold g/f???
You know, I'm also looking to sort this out - so I can plug in my satnav (when someone buys me one for THIS Christmas) - essentially, so I might have a clue as to how fast (or slow) I'm going!
Heard somewhere they're NOT banana plugs you need? Also told re. Maplins. anyone got a Part number for them?

Firstly........this fred is nearly 5 years old......:D:rolleyes:

Secondly........Your getting a Series, your speed will be SLOW :p

Why dont you get yerself a ciggie lighter and wire it from the back of the supplementary dash socket thingys.........saves having too many dangly bits
