A little moan

I love my series 3 but it has caused me a problem. Our "normal car", as my wife likes to call it, has all the modern stuff on it and I used to really like it. Recently though this stuff has started to get on my nerves.
I put it in reverse and the wing mirrors dip so you can better, now I can't see what did before (doesn't happen on my series). The headlights come on automatically but I have to check it's on automatic otherwise I'm driving without lights. Windscreen wipers automatically turn on but some times the rain isn't enough to turn them on when I need them. The ****ing thing bleeps when parking -I know there's a ****ing wall there I can see the bloody thing in the sodding mirrors which have dipped.
All the things that I liked about the "normal " car have started to annoy me. I'd rather drive the series as its more relaxing cos I'm not checking all the electronic stuff is doing what it should be. Yep I'm finding driving a series MORE relaxing!

I'm driving the "normal" car thinking "I'm a sodding adult with many years driving experience " I don't need my car to warn me I'm changing lanes.

Someone asked me what I'd do in heavy rain as the landy only has one speed wipers, find a cafe and have a cuppa is the answer.

And I look on this site and see freelander owners asking for advice on how to connect bluetooth, ****ing bluetooth on a landy site.

I'm probably getting old and the landy reminds me of simpler times, but it bleeps a lot less than the other car. Doesn't tell me what to do, and doesn't try to stop me doing what I want to do (if I want all that I'll just talk to the mrs)

I wouldnt say driving my series is relaxing but it does give.me.a.different.driving.experience from our modern cars. I always feel a exhilerated even after a short drive, probably cos it.requires a lot more physical effort to get.around corners and stop. The only thing I miss from the modern world is a decent heater.

I should say mentally relaxing rather than physically, you need to work to drive it and you focus on the road due to the antiquated brakes but your mind is on that not the electronics in the car or anything else you may be worried about. Of course there's still the bit of your mind thinking does that sound right or was that something falling off.

Also, you won't end up paying 300 quid plus if your key packs up, or you lose the key.

Worth thinking about. Cos Im a big, fat bugger, I need every millimeter of space I can get, adding an extra few.millimeters of padding to the seat might be counter productive. I bought one of the cheap chinese heaters for it but I just havent got around to fitting it. Its currently keeping the chill off my shed. In fact,the shed is warmer than the house.

I might get the heated seat pad for indoors, I work from home bu the Mrs keeps setting the heating thermostat at 14 degrees when she goes to work and it takes me ages to find where she's hidden it

Electronics in my key have packed up, when I discovered that a key would be 300 quid, I decided to stay with manual locking.
As my car is about 20 years old, I can do that. On more modern cars, there are no keyholes!

You need to either get a.spare thermostat or a different wife. I tried the latter once but it cost me an arm and a leg.

On a 2a, the heater is in the passenger footwell.

So the experienced owners get their wife to drive on cold days, and sit in the passenger side where it is warm!

2a dynamo only dribbles out 20A max.. or is it 25A?

Ours has an alternator now, and I should think most do nowadays. The Dynamos are feeble.

Mine is still dynamo. Have thought about an in place upgrade but all it has to do is power the plugs and the lights

You can feel proud to drive a series. Its made of metal, glass and rubber. Not much if any [ depends on model ] plastic that is infesting the world today.

also theres the ease of maintenance - electrical its an earth anything else - tighten a bolt or hit it with a hammer - extreme case hit bolt with hammer to fix it to the earth wire

My last two cars had voice activation. You could turn things up and down and on and off by asking for it.
I don’t think they have mild bellow activation for a series although “COME ON YOU OLD PIECE OF CRAP” often helps on the hills.
