They did, it used a valvein the rack called the Servotronic Valve - common item to fail....

If the speedo is registering correctly, the steering should respond to the variable assistance....speed is registered from one of the rear sensors (Left I think).

Need to check a) Fluid level b) Drive belts not slipping and c) the Servotronic Valve.

I'll stand corrected then Ant!
The Speedo on mine does appear to be taken off the OSF wheel sensor. Since the OSF sensor has thrown a fault.....no Speedo.

So I had a look, and opened the black box (behind wheel), saw 2 cables in there (blue one ABS steering one) and a black one? the black one looked old as ****. It all looked pretty old.
What's the second cable in that box, should the cables going into the box from (say the ECU end) be covered in black tape?

If you had joined the forum in Jan, I would still have been in Surrey and it was 20mins to Farnbug, but it is 1.5 hours drive to Farnbug for me now.....unless you wanna wait a few weeks when we head back to see me dad or me sister....but that won't until April sort of time!

It is literally a 10 minute job - as long as the sensor comes out cleanly, if it is stuck in there, it can be a right sod to drill them out!

Just to update:

I've Fitted a new 'Green' coloured connector OSF wheel sensor, all the warning lights went out (to begin with!!!). Oh great start me thinks!!!! So there's definitely a difference between the later green coloured sensors than the earlier blue ones. They look identical, so assuming it's something to do with the resistance, or Bemma Vs Jag derived motors.

So.....off down the drive, ABS kicks in a bit for NO reason, and all the warning lights in the world appear on the dash.
So, it's had a new OSF wheel sensor, New OSF reluctor ring (all appears aligned up and sitting fine) and on Hawkeye throwing up fault in ABS ECM "C1A94" right front wheel speed sensor alignment or adjustment incorrect looking on The manual 'sensor alignment incorrect/sensor air gap incorrect'
EMS is throwing related faults 'right front wheel speed sensor' and 'vehicle speed sensor 'A' signal compare failure'

So...... She is obviously not happy with the new reluctor ring/ wheel sensor.
I've not found anything that mentions re-calib anything whilst fitting new sensors or reluctor rings only about using test book to "check" ABS system after fitting new wheel sensors.

The drive shaft where the reluctor ring was seated was very, very corroded/rusted away. Was cleaned up and new reluctor ring fitted as old one was pretty trashed.
Having removed the sensor again, checked the reluctor ring whilst rotating hub all the way round ( it all appears FINE) my thoughts are that the wheel sensor is sitting slightly further away from the reluctor ring due to not having the 15years worth of rust pushing it out (I'm only talking 1 or 2mm than the other three wheels, assuming they are still on the original reluctors too), hence it's throwing a fault as it thinks the wheel is turning slower than the other wheels.

Left me Scratching my head here with this one, before pulling the hub apart again any other thoughts are most welcome and much appreciated???

Cheers!

On the P38, the sensor is pushed in until it touches the reluctor ring, the clearance is critical. You sure the wheel earing is OK?

There doesn't appear to be any play in the wheel bearing Keith.
The sensor is definitely not touching the reluctor ring, pretty sure it shouldn't on the 322.... there would be marks on the sensor if it did (and I've pulled the sensor out a few times now)
Tried to remove the NSF sensor to swap them over just to rule out the new sensor......but it's pretty welded in there. Also it's not throwing a 'wheel sensor fault' a such.

@Datatek
FYI Got in sorted eventually, after lots of playing around with it.
Ended up shaving about 1mm off the seat of the sensor (the bit that sits against the hub) so the actual sensor sits 1mm closer to the reluctor ring and that sorted it.
