Got out of my Defender, went back to it half hour later but it won't start. It seems as though it is imobilised:(. Power is getting to the ignition and lights are lighting up on the dash but no turning over is of the engine is occuring:mad:. Wondering if anyone has had similar problem and any suggestions on how to fix it.

Hi there,

Check the wire from the starter relay to the solenoid on the starter motor. Listen carefully when you turn the ignition key. Is there a click? If no click then it could be the starter replay. If it does click the wire could have come loose or broken where it joins the starter motor. This wire has a tough time where it is an often gets damaged.

Thanks,

I checked the wire all looks fine - did the following -

1. removed the imobiliser box - fitted a purpose made loop on imobilser so as to isolate that. Tried that but did not work.

2. Wired from the horn lead to the starter and turned on ignition - pressed the horn button and it starts now, but off the key first and then using the horn as ignition so not long term fix.

3. rewired imobilser box - tried off horn, did not work (so that could have gone down)

4. Refitted loop on imobiliser and starts but only from now hot-wired horn button.

So its the starter wire (somewhere) but no obvious signs, still have a gut feeling its something to do with imobilser.

Do you know if any other imobilser units the model that i could loop and byypass the whole thing, would have to buy a steering lock or take the loop off when in potential theft areas.
