P38A immobilizer question

Does anyone know how to disable the engine immobilizer as i repeatedly get up message engine immobilized press fob. Both of my fobs are beginning to act up and sometimes it will not open the door. I need to immobilize the alarn so that the car can be started with just the key and not have to press the fob.
I have a nanacom and have tried to immobilize the alarm and write setting but it automatically puts it back to alarmed state. I have found an immobilizer number on the nanacom but don,t know what to do with it .
all help would be appreciated. even the key code dosen't seem to work on the disabled engine.
 
Go into BECM with ignition off or in position 1 forget which, you will get "Diagnostic mode" message on dash. Go to, Settings > Alarm. Top of first screen you will see "Immobiliser" set this to disabled, go to next to last screen and set EKA code to disabled, go to first screen and write settings. Switch ignition on. You can now lock/unlock/start car with key only fob will not work. Security code is for syncing BECM to ECM nothing to do with passive immobilaser.

Maybe do it after car has been running?

I switched off everything but the EKA years ago using same screen you were in. No problem since.

Oddly enough, a member at the Great Gathering said he went through fob batteries so fast he carries half a dozen spares. I have never replaced a fob battery yet and both fobs are fine.

This can happen if there is a short to the side of the second battery to go in on to the contact strip that connects the first battery to the fob internal contact. Putting a small strip of electrical tape inside the battery holder lid to insulate the metal strip will prevent this. If the BECM is locked it is not possible to change settings in it with ignition on or with engine running.
 
The BECM should communicate with the ignition on in POS I or II however I've always been told that communicating with the BECM for diagnostic purposes is best to do with the ignition OFF. (when you get DIAGNOSTIC MODE) on the dash.
The BECM will ignore all diagnostic requests when the engine is running.

I didn't think having a locked/unlocked BECM made a difference to when it will communicate. The only thing I've heard about having an UNLOCKED BECM is that it can cause issues talking to the HEVAC, but the workaround for that is to unplug the connector to the BECM with the diagnostics wires in it if you have problems. (though I think that might be early ones... as I've unlocked my BECM, and don't have problems talking to HEVAC on my '01)

I'm like Grrrrrr on the fob batteries though - had mine 4 years and haven't had to replace the batteries yet! Though it's on the 'list' to do as a routine thing though.

If the BECM is locked settings can only be changed in diagnostic mode with ignition off.
 
All sorted thanks wammers went in with ignition off and followed your instructions and it worked first time.
 
I will be back in the UK tomorrow to pick up a few spares to get me back on the road but at the moment having a rest in Bishkek in a hotel with a pool so thats appreciated as the temp is about 36c here
