Immobiliser light flashing while driving

hello again, I've found the above is happening to me in the disco: the red alarm/immobiliser light starts flashing while I'm driving along sometimes, but doesn't yet give me any problems like cutting out or not disarming when I come to start it.

If I turn the ignition off and hit the remote fob unlock button while coasting along, then turn the ignition back on it seems to stop the flashing light.

Am I in for trouble?

It's a '96 300 tdi with remote locking, and I believe I have a spider somewhere that came with it, will I eventually need to take the dash out and use it?

Driving back from Moorland today and the led was flashing again, so I turned off the ign! unlocked with the fob and back on. Didn't work the first time, tried it again and it wouldn't start, tried a third time and it worked! Phew... I was coasting at the time!!

That's the first time it's refused to start - is this just the beginning of the ball ache?

Make sure you check if your truck has a spider unit! As took my 1996 300tdi dash apart couple days ago to bypass spider only to find i dont have a spider unit!!

No 300tdi's auto's have a 'spider' immobiliser ECU when they left the factory.
As far as a dim lamp illuminating on a vehicle, that is normally down to a poor earth connection somewhere.

Hmm... would be good to know if it has one then - I guess I won't know until I make a mess of the dash right?

Dim light - not sure that's my car, I've no problems with lights, too much if anything!

Look on the rear of the injector pump.
if you have one wire, you have the spider and should easily be sortable.
if you have 3 wires, you have the digital diesel shut off in a tamperproof case and its controlled thru an ecu that's also linked to the alarm ecu and immobiliser ecu.
and that's a whole new can of worms!

Oh dear - I have 3 wires!! No problems recently however, but what do I need to read up on for when the time comes?!
