So every now and then when I unlock the freelander and get in the little red light on the dash flashes like mad and there's a beeping sound.

I know for a fact that the alarm hasn't went off and no one is tampering with the car so what does this mean exactly?

I thought at first that it was because I left a window/door open but when that happens the horn sounds when you lock it. Just want to know if it's something to worry about?

Oh great 😔 so I take it its not just a simple battery replacement?
Yeh, just swap for a new one.

Had to replace mine recently. I googled what type it was, made sure I had a replacement and swapped it over.

Worked fine.......

For a few weeks then stopped working all together. Opened it up and the clip holding the battery to the PCB had broken free from its solder.

Mine's the early 'lucas' type, a 2K car uses a different fob and hopefully doesn't have the same fragility.

The key fob batteries are relatively easy to change, (find out how on YouTube) and replacement casings are available on eBay. I got the local tv repair guy to solder one in for me as it’s a bit fiddly., took a while to fully charge up but works fine now. Could be a problem if you don’t have

Yes. The case comes apart, so a new battery can be installed. It's a 2032 lithium coin cell. Don't use cheap though, as they don't last. Once the new battery is installed, the fob needs syncing to the car, which is done by pressing the lock button 5 times in short succession, at which point the vehicle should lock, indicating that the syncing was successful.

Don't think he said how much the actual key was, but that Autel AP200 was only something like £60!

Bet a LR stealer would charge you £100's to program a new key.
When I got my FL2 The second key fob was badly worn and did not work. I did manage to resurrect it as I mentioned before, but I’ve priced a new key fob from LR and they quoted me £180 and that was eight years ago. To replace the battery and the casing cost me about.£7 at the time.
