Hey guys. I finally found the vehicle I wanted. It took a lot of searching and driving around for test drives but at last I've found a reasonable one. It's a '98 Hi-cap, 300tdi. I'm told they are quite rare (like rocking horse poo around here!) so I'm glad to have found it.

I've left a deposit and I'm picking it up later this week. I can't wait to get it home and start messing about with it!

Just think, this all started when I thought I was getting a 90 to do up. It fell through and I decided I wanted a pickup again. I guess it's back to travelling in complete discomfort, but at least I'll have fun doing it!

I'll post pictures on here when I get it home. It's a little knocked about (farmer reversed his trailer into it the week before he traded it in!) but I'm looking forward to tidying it up. Apart from the front end damage which isn't really that bad, it's actually fairly tidy. Until he hit it with the trailer I think he looked after it pretty well.

you'll not get better than a Land Rover, so long as it's pre TD4/5 and so on. :beer2:

That was my opinion too. I went to several places and found a Td5 inside my budget, but that wasn't what I was after. The 300tdi is getting rare now if you want a good one, so I decided I'd just buy the best I could find and make it better as time goes on. As money allows it I'll have a new galvanised chassis and running gear on it, and search e-bay for used parts that are tidier than the ones it has now. Give me five years and I hope to have it almost as new.:)

I have next to no workshop experience, but I can rebuild chainsaws and lawn mowers so how hard can it be? I'm building a nice big garage to put all my work tools in, so I figured I may as well build a pit into it so I can start learning!
