Ignition switch changed

Ay up,
Just swooped the ignition switch on my 86 Defender. I all dash gauges and battery/brake warning light but it won't turn over.
During taking the dash out something shorted and the relay clicked loudly. Do you think this could be knackered,if so can I test it? The relay does click when the ignition is turned. Photos of wires and switch below.

Petrol engine? Blade type fuse holders in lower dash center?

It's a diesel 300tdi,not original.
It's got a central fuse box with glass fuses.

That is the early type fuse box,I think the relay for the starter is behind it.Substitute another to test. Feel with a finger to see which one clicks.

There is only one relay which has a Renault logon on it? Whoever had it before me obviously had a play.

Allways a problem when things are a bitsa this and that.

You need to check for power at the signal wire on the starter solenoid, then work back.
