Ignition charge light backwards

Hi guys

I've just put a 300tdi engine in my series 3 and i have a couple of small teething issues.

Firstly, i've wired it all up, and she runs great, charges battery etc etc but the charge light seems to operate backwards.. i think.

when the ignition is off (no key in) the charge light is ON
put the ignition on (the oil pres comes on etc) the light goes OFF
go to start the engine and the light FLICKERS as normal, as the engine turns
When the engine is running the light is OFF
turn the engine off and the light comes ON again....

any ideas? im a little confused tbh...lol

Also, when i turn the ignition off, the engine will continue to run for a couple of seconds before stopping. as if its delayed

Sounds like a faulty diode pack in the alternator was it your original or the 300tdi unit?

the alternator is the 300tdi one...

Alternator...diode pack or regulator module is flunky, i'd think.
