Ignition barrel removal

Hi all. I'm trying to remove the ignition cylinder from the lock but not having much luck. So a few questions.
1st pic. Do I need to drill out these 2 pins first?

Now I'm familiar with having to push in a pin to realese the barrel. I have easy access to this side, unfortunately I believe this is the wrong side to push from as I'm sure I can see the spring at this end and not the plunger.

The hole on the other side isn't giving me much joy either. As this is the most access I can get to it. Have tried making right angled pins to shove in but still no joy

Some of you are probably wondering why I'm doing this. Previous owner has snapped the end of the key in the cylinder meaning no functioning ignition or steering lock. And I'm getting fed up of the auxiliary ignition switch

So does anybody have some advice for me please? I'm getting to the point of throwing it in the bin and figuring out a way of mounting the engine off cable elsewhere

It won't make a difference to me as I haven't got a clue but others will probably need to know what it's off.

Is the broken key still in it? On most locks you need to turn to "ign on" to access the pin so if the broken key allows the barrel to turn do it while you can.

That's the confusing thing. The hole I can access in the on position looks to be the wrong end. Almost as if the barrel was put in 180° the wrong way of that's possible. I hope it wasn't lol

Broken bit is all the way in annoyingly

It's out of an S3 btw

Could be that it was put on 180 out and that's how the OP broke the key trying to get it to work? Another option is to drill the lock in small steps and stop when things start coming out.

Can you buy replacement barrels? I haven't had much luck finding any.

Quick Google suggests that the early Defender steering lock will also fit some Series 3 vehicles.

If that is the case with yours might it be easier just to replace the lot as they don't appear to be silly priced?

They don't have the engine off mount for the cable

I was in "The Range" home stuff store last week on a domestic errand (pennance...) and found they have a small car electrics section (weird but true). I bought a good quality toggle switch to £2.99, but next to it was a genenric ignition switch for under £10 that included the keys and lock barrel. It looked identical to my S2A one. If you are near a branch it my be worth a look and gambling £10 on getting the pin out and separating the lock barrel from the ignition switch. (I'm sure it was £5 in store but its £10 in line)
