hi all

i have got a 110 double cab and it currently has a canvas top on it... it now about ready to be binned as the windows are cracked and its leeking in water ... ( the mrs keeps nagging as her shopping is getting wet)

Just been looking at a ifor williams hard top canopy ,and was wondering

1) has any one got one for sale
2) will it make the back pick up part water tight? ( or more so than it is now)

cheers

Dan :D

If you mount it properly then 90 percent of it will be watertight if the canopy has a grille back, and it should be nearly 100 percent watertight if you go for one with the solid back door.
Mine had a grille back and it was surprising how much water got blown in when it was parked.
There are often some secondhand ones on ebay. I got mine from Oaktree Garage in Wheathampstead a few years ago, not perfect nick but perfectly serviceable. If you buy a secondhand one try to buy the fixings as well, and check any rubber seals.
And check the roof to see if once removed by the seller it hasn`t been used as a sawbench ( it happens................)

Ohh that's good to know I spoke with the ifor Williams rep and he told me that they where not water tight and would probably let water in ... But he seemed a right Arse hole !

So I thought I would get a second opinion on here

Regardless of the back door; the seal on the front of the canopy to the back of the cab is unlikely to be 100% as it has to fit around the window rubbers the shape of the cab. More likely to get a bit of water in the front when parked in driving rain, or driving in the rain as the gutters divert most of it otherwise.

Although not an ifor top, I've got a full soft top on my 90, with the back rolled up you get a load of spray coming up from the tyres and soaking stuff in the back. Ok I've got wide tyres and my arches are all cut away but dad's soft top does the same with standard tyres and mudflaps, just not as bad.

It would be worthwhile finding a top that either has a solid back or if it's a mesh one then attach a bit of plyboard or plexiglass to it.

or do what Buckshots done and get both. I think he uses the solid one in winter and the cage one in summer.

Ive got the Ifor williams back on mine, a bit like the one below..

It stays pretty watertight, helped by the fact it has a canvas sheet that i can put on and take off the back grill, just clips on and off. seems to keep pretty damn dry inside! and also makes like a fridge in the cold weather! haha

I have the grate door like the 1 picture above. Never had any water get in, good enough to put pram and shopping in with no worries. Look out on fleabay, got mine for £50 still with the ifor williams stickers on

thank all,

i have had a look and ebay , there all for 90's :-( im guessing that these wont fit !

i will have to keep looking

hi mate
i have 1 on mine you can get away with a 90 back if you are good with your hands i had a great deal of trouble finding a 110 double cab 1 so picked up a 90 top off the bay (about £50 if i remeber right) with a metal door , then "aquired" a cage door for when the weathers better .

with a 90 top you will need to cut a fraction over 4" off the back to make it fit
this is before it was cut

just need to drill out the rivets on the last strengthener then cut the excess off then re-rivet it back on

hi all

i have found a canopy local to me , but it only has the grill and not the door , can i buy this seperatly from ifor williams and install it myself?

be cheaper to get a sheet of ali and fix it to the frame , not sure if ifor williams sell them seperate but they should all be the same. have you thought about fixing some perspex to the cage?. have seen a couple locally with perspex and 1 with twin wall polycarbonate (might be able to find you a off cut if you want it ;)

When I had an Ifor canopy I enquired about a solid door and it was seriously expensive, a good way towards buying a whole new canopy with door.

I like what you've done with your canopy Buckshot, looks good in black and i was thinking of painting mine up. How did you manage to get such a good finish? I was thinking some sort of etch coat on the alluminium the maybe using a roller for the top coat?

I have just taken mine off my 110 so can be offered up for sale. I wasn't going to sell it as they go for next to nothing and it's a 'may be useful' sometime. But open to offers.
