hi all. i am new to this site and have seen there are a lot of people here that have an extensive knowledge of land rovers so just wondering if anyone can help. i have a 1999 freelander 1.8. the car runs perfect but when the engine has reached operating temperature it will only idle for a few minutes. i can hear the petrol pump stop and then the engine stalls. this happens before the fans kick in. any help would be great. cheers

Is she running rich?
Mine was lumpy at tick over turned out the temp sender(right hand end of head as you look from the front) was faulty and fooling the ecu into thinking she was cold all the time .

i dont think it is running rich. i did fit a new sensor about a month ago(brown plug) but it was just from my local motor factors. how can i test it? thanks for the reply

also forgot to say that as it cuts out before the fans kick in i don't know if this could be a related problem? the fans run if i disconnect the brown plug on the temp sender. but ive never managed to get the car hot enough for the fans to kick in on their own as it wont idle for long enough when warm.

If the pump stops before the engine stalls, perhaps the problem lies with the fuel pump itself. When the pump stops check you are still getting 12v at the pump connection, if you are then chances are the pump is faulty.

I have tested the fuel pump after it cuts out and there is no power to it. so im guessing this rules out the pump being the problem?
