ideas on red hot engine!!!

took out for a drive round the block temp gauge fine but shimmering coming from bonnet not long maybe 2 mile max.
got out to open bonnet front grill nearly melting metal slam panel cant touch that hot,top radiator hose like its gonna burst whole engine bay really really hot!!!

i removed tps sensor and stepper 2 days ago and cleaned them up new bolts etc etc also fitted a new radiator coincedence!!

also forgot to mention every gear change up the way and down the way when braking was VERY rough and jolt like!!!!!!!!!!!

air lock in the cooling system??
 
Was it sunny , believe it or not when I bought my classic it was a red hot day and I though the bonnests must run too hot to touch as it was my first rangie I knew no different.

However after running to for a few months now I know it was purely the sun as even after hours of running with the ac on I can still touch it no probs.
 
does sound like an air lock and they can be a real arse to bleed out. the reason possibly for it feeling rough going up and down the box is cause the oil cooler for the gear box run through the radiator
 
no sun was only a wee while ago about 8pm and would an air lock cause all this i was thinking along those lines!!
is there a specific way to push it out or bleed or whatever it is you do??? as bettre get on to this in morning!
 
ok will try this asap what if that does not happen and it starts to overflow? might not only thought i would ask what it meant if this happened as well
 
so the top radiator hose will be not be like its gonna burst and should eventually come through i.e bubbles and water going down as there just now there was more water in the bottle when icame back than was in it when i left bout an inch more!!

if you leave the cap of the engine cannot pressurise,the water will still get hot though,it will circulate round the engine and hopefully get rid of the air still stuck in the engine.
 
will this deff work john? and how will i know if all the air is out

it should do mate,every now and again give it a quick rev up to try and dislodge the air.it could take ten mins or an hour,all the air will be out when the water level stays constant.after awhile the water will boil over without the cap on though.let it cool down then fit the cap and see if it's cured it.
