hi all

I’ve put britpart 2” lift springs on my d1 (da4201 fronts and da4204 rears) which are apparently the softer fronts and the medium rears. The rear is spot on but the front is really hard, choppy and bouncy and I’m wondering wot other people’s experience is on this please.

The shocks are the same adjustable terrafirma ones front and rear and there is no winch on the front. I have driven other people’s vehicles with these front springs and they are all fine, I did wonder if I maybe have ended up with the wrong springs in the box for some reason

Many thanks in advance

No you don’t have an incorrect item but there should be some ID on then, It appears that some of the after market spring suppliers call their springs “light” at the front, and give them a 200 lb rating, (even more with some springs).
Land Rover fitted standard springs at the front with a 150 lb rating when your disco was built, so that maybe the problem. The 2 inch lift springs are or was available with a 149 lb rating from Bearmach... see the attached link.

Also check the spring rating of the springs u removed, could it be possible that you have identical new springs ? but being brand new is the reason for bouncy etc etc affect.

Thanks for that

The springs were just yellow with no I’d apart from on the box. All I know is that these springs are really hard and even on good roads the front end is nodding over the bumps instead of taking them and that’s before we find pot holes or tracks, going over speed bumps it feels like the axle is welded in direct theres that little give but then the rear takes the bump as expected. There’s 6 of our vehicles all with the same front springs and mine is the odd one out by long way.

Thanks for the heads up about the bearmach springs, maybe I should have a ring round cos these are horrific

Cheers

the Britpart da4201 rating of 200lb / inch is far too high for a vehicle without extra weight on the front. Even 180 lb/in would be firm.
The damper won't be able to control the movement because the spring is so strong.
BTW the spring colour means nothing, nearly all Britpart springs are yellow.

Refitting the original springs with 2 inch spacers may be your solution. Also, tow bar spacers can be used to lower the rear anti roll bar mounts as removing it should result in an MOT failure.

Thanks for the replies

It’s definitely the springs not the shocks, and yes it’s that hard the shockers don’t get chance to control compression or rebound on any setting, and I swapped them all front to rear to check (shockers I mean ha). When I said about colour I meant there was no markings, numbers or anything else on them to identify them that’s all but I don’t know if they should have or not

Does anyone know of any other suppliers that offer a softer rated spring

Thanks
