G'day Folks.
Just purchased my first Land Rover. a 1998 90 0n 38" tyres. 240k KM.
Front bulk head is rotten, and there are a couple of holes in the chassis.
I "intend" to strip the body off and tackle the chassis with a few welded panels and a good clean up and paint. I hope I don't find more rust that requires a new chassis, but we will see.
The front Bulkhead looks like I will need a new one as it is falling to pieces, and a few other bits and bobs. But I think I have a good foundation to build on.
Love to get fellow members advice and guidance so I don't make novice mistakes.....have a feeling I will anyway!
See attached picture - No, that is not a tree in the back...its the trunk. Boom Boom! Sorry about that.
Looking for guidance on best place to get a galvanised bulkhead and rear tub capping strips. Also looking for a good electronic illustrated parts catalogue so I don't order the wrong parts, (always an issue living in Iceland!! And electronic workshop manual and maybe owners manual.
Just for ref the VIN is SALLDVB68WA140152.
The engine code of "8" refers to a 2.5 EEGR - I have no idea what that means, but it must be good, right???
Wish me luck folks.

Thinking about it could also be a TD5, I think 98 was the changeover year. FYI they are all 2.5 from 84-06 ish. A quick google of 300tdi/td5 images should help you, they look very different

OK I looked up a VIN decoder too :)
90"
Defender 3door Station Wagon
2.5L, inline 4 cylinder, turbo-diesel (200Tdi/300Tdi) EGR/cat
5 Speed Manual / Left Hand Drive
1998
Solihull, UK

So it will (or would have been at least) a 300tdi as it's too late to be a 200tdi

Cant thank you enough for that - I have been going around in circles thinking it was a different engine. May I ask why they call it the 300TDi?

That's one extreme looking 90. I guess you wont need to wade any deep puddles, bet it floats with those tyres!

Mistakes are inevitable and very necessary. The lessons best remembered are ones learned the hard way. There's no shame in it. Here's to shearing bolts and setting things on fire :p
