Hi – first post - stereo (ICE) problem – just over 7 months ago I had to take my disco off the road, broken oil ring, I disconnected the battery, work complete 3 months on, I reconnected the battery, she sprang into life on the first turn of the key, the stereo was never turned on until she was back fully on the road, the stereo then came to life and displayed “wait” never asked for a code, and now 3 months further on it still only shows wait, its never asked for a code – any ideas how to fix? I do have the correct code for it. :(

'WAIT' is what is displayed after an incorrect code has been entered and there's a time delay period. At the end of the delay period the word 'CODE' will reappear in the display and you can then enter the correct code. But with yours there may be a fault with the unit.

But as we don't know what head unit you have the the above may not be applicable to you.

And WELCOME to the Forum: :welcome2:

Hi Discool - thank you for the welcome, the head unit is one of the standard Land rover units – I need to check the exact model, in the past when the battery has been disconnected – service etc, I have just entered the code and away we go. When wrong code was entered then wait appears for a few minutes until you get it right, this time, nothing but wait, so I guess it is faulty then? Does this mean a new unit – or maybe a new non-LR system if that that is cheaper… Cheers

Hi yes it has been on for hours at a time for one reason or another - when the battery was reconnected – it never asked for the code, just displayed wait, but was working fine before disconnection

Hi demitrious1973, thanks for the idea, I have pulled the head unit right out (borrowed an extraction tool) disconnecting everything leaving it for just about 30 minutes and reconnecting, assumption being if it is fully disconnected and sitting on the passenger seat there is nothing that can back feed it. Should have said this sooner - sorry.

Guess what - it still says WAIT…

Is there anyway of just resetting it back to the start, i.e. where I can enter the code, I guess this is the question now. I presume there must be some sort of reset button – nothing obvious - or process to follow?

Have you tried to enter your code even though the display says 'wait'? your unit it may have a software glitch and 'wait' means 'code' in the display. If your unit is the same as mine, that is with the display on the left with the two rotary controls below then before you enter the number you must press pre-set button1 then enter the code via the two tuning buttons pressing pre-set button1 each time to set each digit.

My head unit has never had the security code activated although i have the number i didn't want the hassel I have had before with other vehicles
To activate the code I would have to keep the 'up' tuning button depressed while turning the head unit on and getting a beep. I dont think it would work in reverse to de-activate that would defeat the object of having a code, but try it.

If all fails take the unit to a car audio shop I sure they will fixit.

Hi, sorry for the delay in responding I have been away, I guess the head unit is the same as yours as the disco is a 2000 Discovery ES V8 auto. I have not been able to try entering the code with wait displayed as the display showed code when I got back so I tried the code and now it’s blank! It sounds to me that it’s a trip to an audio specialist to see if they can resolve. I have no idea at what point on the journey back up from the south coast the display changed from wait to code, therefore how long it was displaying code as I was towing the disco on an A frame – as you need the keys in to allow the front wheels to steer I deliberately left the unit switched on to give to more time to clear the wait and see what happens. I have just tried the idea of code activation to see if it works in reverse – nothing still just shows a blank display. Many thanks for your help.

FIXED - I just left it showing CODE for a few days then tried and agin and it accepted it. One of thoese things that no one not even Land Rover have been able to give a reason, but thank you to all who answered here as well as contacted me directly.
Cheers
Steve
