It's worth checking the Caledonian MacBrayne website updates for service disruptions. This seems to be the company that covers most of the major routes. There's usually something wrong with them.

They may be doing better now, but a few years ago they had a habit of running their ships aground on particularly sharp and pointy rocks, which didn't do much for service reliability. I've no idea if this is true, but an acquaintance in Aberdeen opined in a broad Scots accent that they employed skippers who couldn't get jobs elsewhere on account of their poor accident record.

Don’t forget banging their nose hard into the piers too

...that I feel wholly vindicated on several fronts.
"We" (wife & I) have come in for criticism on how we have approached the obtaining of probate on the late MIL's estate.
The criticism comes from other "executors" named in the old gals will who while not taking an active part in the process are only too happy to lob hand-grenades and baulk at doing their part.

Predictably, as I foretold.... Our financial accounting is correct to the penny, AND as I also said right up front the property is blighted and cannot be sold as a normal house sale.

We tried to get "unoccupied property insurance" and no-one will insure it as it is in a database of "blighted properties". So, if it cannot be insured, no lender will lend on it. So it's a building plot needing to be cleared, just like I said.

It transpires that the old gal had not had any insurance since 2006 after she had subsidence issues rectified and her insurer declined to continue covering her thereafter.

So you wont be buying it then @DanClarke ?

If its a detached plot new developer could get 2 houses on it and it could still be worth a fair bit.

My Dad and Uncles sold their Garage to a property developer as it was worth more for houses than a Garage :vb-confused2:.

Afternoon folks:).

Still ott here although today is a little cooler, pool is still wet:D.
Been painting the "east wing" on the final coat of colour tomorrow, then I will need to asess electrics needed and pop into the big town for supplies.

We have decided that we are going to move the lounge into the East wing once we have electric, no heating but temps still high enough.
Then finish the Lounge properly.
Its a long story but We got it to a livable space but not finished. I went to work and came home to 2 sofas and a big table in the room:vb-groan2:. But this now gives us the space to swap rooms (before somebody buys a bed and wardrobes for the east wing) It will also push us to get our fingers out before the cold really gets here:).

But it keeps us fit and active in retirement:D.
