100 thou. So 1/10 of an inch. Without measuring it, just looking at by eye on your pic, that looks to me a bit more than that.
Just saying. Have you actually measured it?
And I am not sure who you are referring to, is it you, being ironic about yourself, or is it the rolling road, jockey?
So I reckon it could take a bit more advance if the Merkin bloke is correct

Sorry, the pic of that plug was from the guy AC DODD who you professed a dislike for. His day job is tuning SU carb'd engines.
I am going to be doing a bit more miles tomorrow going to that show so I will pull the plugs after that round trip and take a look.
Dodd does all his stuff with a Snap-on strobe & Rev counter/degrees of advance tool and a lambda pipe bunged up your exhaust to make sure you have lambda 1 across all the rev-range.
I will be happy to have clean and tidy plugs without soot all over the electrode & earth of the plugs.

It gets complicated when you try too hard to make things perfect, ... it's a MiniI know the jet does not move, the jet should only be used to set the idle mixture only. But if you go hog-wild and wind it down too far you affect more than just the idle mixture, you affect the first few station positions too.
Did you find out if you have a 10 deg dizzy ? If so set timing so you have over 30 deg at 4000rpm but no more than 35.
If it pinks low down then you have the wrong dizzy in
Best you can do is advance up so it pinks under load 3 to 5000 then back it of a little till it stops
Bit of soot is a good thing, means the engine is getting enough fuel, lean it off till you get perfect plugs and you risk burning exhaust valves out, especially if you don't have enough advance, ... it's a Mini

I thought I just said that I thought the rolling road guy was a cowboy.
If he tunes engines as you say, then apart from the exhaust analyser, then he is doing it the same way as I would.
I don't have a Snap-on strobe, my strobe is a Gunson one, but very good, and a Gunson general mutltimeter type tool, special for cars so it gives me revs and dwell etc. As for degrees of advance, I just use Tippex marks on the crankshaft pulley wheel!!

So, up at dawn this morning to make a start on the apple harvest.
Dreadful this year compared to last.
We will get a fairish bit of juice but nowhere near the bumper crop we had last year. We still have stuff to spare in both countries. Good thing!!
We have stopped now as the heat is starting to bite.
We'll do a tiny bit more tomoz but not much as without a sky hook we can't get to the appuls that are left ont trees!
