Just like the guy in the YT clip advised look at the fire mark/band on the earth strap of the plug. 100thou' band just above the thread of the plug.

And I am not sure who you are referring to, is it you, being ironic about yourself, or is it the rolling road, jockey?
So I reckon it could take a bit more advance if the Merkin bloke is correct
It gets complicated when you try too hard to make things perfect, ... it's a MiniI know the jet does not move, the jet should only be used to set the idle mixture only. But if you go hog-wild and wind it down too far you affect more than just the idle mixture, you affect the first few station positions too.![]()

I am going to be doing a bit more miles tomorrow going to that show so I will pull the plugs after that round trip and take a look.
Dodd does all his stuff with a Snap-on strobe & Rev counter/degrees of advance tool and a lambda pipe bunged up your exhaust to make sure you have lambda 1 across all the rev-range.
I will be happy to have clean and tidy plugs without soot all over the electrode & earth of the plugs.![]()
I have to agree wholeheartedly with this. Trying to get perfection without an ECU etc is flipping impossible with a carb.It gets complicated when you try too hard to make things perfect, ... it's a Mini
Did you find out if you have a 10 deg dizzy ? If so set timing so you have over 30 deg at 4000rpm but no more than 35.
If it pinks low down then you have the wrong dizzy in
Best you can do is advance up so it pinks under load 3 to 5000 then back it of a little till it stops
Bit of soot is a good thing, means the engine is getting enough fuel, lean it off till you get perfect plugs and you risk burning exhaust valves out, especially if you don't have enough advance, ... it's a Mini![]()
