Its a prerequisite qualification for posting in this fred.

I had a frustrating hour or so in the workshop trying to make a "Mr. Pete" style no spill oil pot.
Making the brush spout wasn't too hard, cutting the hole in the tin was easy.
Getting the Salmon out of the tin yesterday was an exercise in patience.
Soldering the spout into the tin was a dismal failure.
Things were scrubbed gleaming with wire-wool. Lots of flux was applied, but NO the tiny gap would not solder closed.
7/8ths yup no problem, the other bit where the gap was slightly wider, the solder just kept running down to form a puddle in the bottom of the can. I gave up and let it cool, cleaned it all up and smeared JB-Weld all around the stem of the spout.
Ugly as anything now, but it will probably work ok.

Let's here it for Poor George Bothelthwaite from Lancashire. Not only did he get divorced from recent billionaire winning wife Amanda. Who's now currently living in the South Pacific.
Poor George has a house, bills, a leaky roof and a asbestos ridden garage about to collapse. Worse for Poor George, his former wife Amanda left him Range Rover EV Evoque that burnt down the town multistorey carpark. To end all misery, Poor George a avid horse racing punter, placed a blind whim bet on a no hoper, thinking it would win. Only to win the blooming Donkey, that pulled up with a cough from the crowd as the last prize.

Because this is pretty much "no-spill" in its construction.
You fill it enough that a brush can be left down the spout to pick up oil for cutting operations.
If it gets knocked over the bulk of the oil stays in the main reservoir by draining out of tube back into it.
It is an old established design. I enjoyed putting it together (even though it has failed a tiny bit).
I may hot-glue some magnets to the base as well.

Without reading the rest of the thread it looks like an old oil filter, upside down. Althought that wouldn't have a very flat bottom.
