Brilliant, never ceases to amaze me when I hear would be plasterers start with a ceilingWear a hat
. I bought a shed load of trowels etc from a bloke who said he didn’t get on with plastering for that reason

The job I finished yesterday broke me tbh. Up steps, on a plank, fiddly sills, dark and a banister to plaster round. No labourer so was always behind drying plaster (which I might add is inconsistent drying (french ****). In the end I did my best and advised imperfections should be tackled with poly fillerI just used really thick wallpaper when I failed at plastering.....

Morning All
Teeming with rain here. I wish I had had the time to fit guttering on my mini-barn.
Never mind, we need a good drop of the wet stuff for the garden. It has been the driest April I can remember.
Not going out in this (if I can help it). Perhaps I can play with that 4-jaw chuck that I seem not to be able to dial-in.
Have a lovely day folks.

What's the problem Dan? To what tolerance are you able to get it? The stock may not be fully round? Getting it within a thou or its metric equivalent should be close enough for hobby work?

I accept stock may not be perfectly round, i am just failing here.

I am ashamed to say that my attempts (thus far) all appear to be at least3-miles(40-50 thou')out of centre.
It is primarily just unfamiliarity with the process I think. I understand the concept of N-S/E-W and the ability to off-set a work-piece as desired. I just am failing to get one centred at all.
I accept stock may not be perfectly round, i am just failing here.
Make sure your tail stock is centering, we just had to get a new tailstock chuck at work ...

Took a look inside me sick angle grinder this morning. A single ball bearing rattled out of it, don't know where the rest of them have escaped to. Looks like its days are over, well it lasted 15 years so not bad for a power tool. New one ordered , same type but obviously updated model.

Weathers orrible and blowing the wrong way, straight into me french doors. Looks like it’s in for a while anorl which has stalled my outside DIY jobs

My DTI now says 0.03mm (1.18 Thou' ?) so I'm sort-of getting the hang of it.

Emptied arf me watta butts yesdi as the last one were nearly full. Eye gottid wind of there being a lot of rain coming. Eye hurd a little voice saying "am fursty" so eye gave him a small drink as he'll be drinking all day ter day. Tis a good job eye has an ole int side of his pot.

OK, I think we have it sorted. Now my DTI shows c.0.01mm or less run out. I think that is 0.39 thou' ?
