Another decent day out there.
Off for her paper in a minute, then back for Coffee & Breakfast.
Will be at the building site later.:(
Spent all day there yesterday clearing the floor of plaster spills and other floor lumps.
Crouched down all day with a scraper, a dustpan & brush and a hoover has done wonders for my back of course. :(
You all have a splendid day whatever you are doing. :D:D

After morning folks still pouring here never mind im off soon to clear out my new shed :D:D:D

If anyone needs some storage I should be able to squeeze a landy or 50 in o_O
The wooden yacht on the top left is 40ft gives an idea of the shed capacity.

Interviewed the first applicant for replacing me this morning. He had a multi-page CV showing everything he can do... he could do it all according to the words on the pages.
So I asked him some basic technical questions to gauge his knowledge level and he fell at the first hurdle.
Next Please......

Was once on a panel interviewing for a French teacher, peripatetic. Asked her in French "What do you do to maintain your level in the langauge?" No answer. Asked her a simpler version "What do you do to ensure you French is still good?" she looks at me and repeats the word "Bon?" at me ("Good?") Then bursts into tears.
Felt bad but what can you do?:(

before too long, interviews will be banned as discriminatory

maybe your accent/annunciation was really bad or she thought she was being interviewed for the librarians job? ook.

I am back from the "building of despair" :)
Today we laid screed where the walls were removed and where the floor had to be taken up.
We hope to have eradicated a damp problem where a previous builder/bodger had filled the cavity wall of the main building with sand from the strip footing to the DPC and beyond and then put a thin screed over the top.
Everything was soaking wet and even clearing out all of the sand and debris back to the strip foundation merely left a cold void with no airbricks.:(
This 6 Metre mini trench we cleared out and core-drilled a breather hole at one end (the other end is the party wall to the semi next door).
Then we tanked the brickwork and covered the top of both courses with a double layer of slate and then a strong screed mix.
It isn't a perfect solution, but without demolishing the bodged extension completely and starting again (too expensive) we felt it was an adequate "fix". Time will tell.
Underfloor hot-water CH will go over this cavity and all of the floor downstairs and then a laminate flooring on top of that.
Thankfully, I am not needed for a few days as the next jobs are bathroom fixture fitting and fuse-board commissioning.
I won't say it has been "fun", but there are worse things in life.

Tis a good bit of male bonding. It's nice to be wanted by your kids even if it involves diy.;)
