Hi Everyone

Ok here is the story so far, first I thought my ECU had gone as I had nothing when I tried to start it and was going to send it to Irish Rover to have it synced with my BECM just in case but found in the end it was a blown fuse thankfully  so replaced that and got it started ok, then I had my Rangy plugged in test book and showed no faults this was because it was running a bit crap on low tick over after I had done the head gaskets, had the plenum chamber sealed with some gasket seal and all good. Testbook then put the system into reset so it would learn from new. Started it Friday all good and I thought I will take it out for a spin over the weekend to see how it goes. Sunday went out in my disco lose the pedal to the ground no clutch  get breakdown to get me back home, so while that needs to be sorted (I am having trouble with it so thread on the disco area) I'll take the Rangy to work try and start it nothing:mad: all I get is a click now when turning the key. I have the check engine light ok, its a new starter, new alternator and new battery heavy duty one as well. And all I get is a click when trying to start, the display on the Hvac does go out when I turn the key and then comes back on when I let go of it. Do you think it maybe the becm? I don't get any messages such as lock out etc. The RF is disconnected if thats make a difference. Any ideas anybody it will be greatly appreciated. Don't get me wrong I love my two Landy's but they are really testing my patience at the moment:violin:

If the lights go out when you turn the key, it would suggest a bad connection. Double check the battery terminals are cleane and tight, ditto all other connections at the battery. Otherwise put a test meter on the battery terminals, get someone to turn the key and look at the voltage. If it drops dramatically it's either a duff battery or it needs charging. New parts can be duff, read TAK Drivers tale of woe with the ABS pressure switch.

not evrything always shows up on test book !!!!

my P38 says its got no faults....(dont believe it, its a P38) but the MAF is fooked

Sounds like its a poor earth conection as display goes and returns on the key position,

Is it poss engine/gearbox earth has not been reconnected or been severed whilst working on it. If it is an earth if will be a major one, Check resistance between neg battery term and engine block, should be a very low resistance.

@ Datatec i been sold 2 duff batteries (both halfords) in last few years, just to back ur point up.

matt sorry to hear about the grief your getting off your landys,i too have 2,1 disco 1 rangy.i love me rangy to bits which is why my disco,s been broken for bits.:(.i seem to be doing a 74 hour working week.37 at work and another 37 trying to keep my cars on the road.somethings has to go and unfortunatly the disco,s drew the short straw.hope you get it sorted.

Thank you everyone for you replies, I will go through them this weekend and check what you have advised. It is much appreciated. :)

Bart, I am really sorry that your having trouble too, and I can certainly feel for you by the amount of work you have been doing, it certainly makes it very hard work. Sorry about the disco :(

Many thanks

Matt
