gonna tow it with the disco 2 300tdi i did all the mot welding on last week for me mate a favour for a favour so to speak

then when it comes home itll be roof doors and side pannels off and into me mates garage over the street ( retired irish hgv mechanic that loves anything old n diesel )
for its timing to be sorted out and in return for that im gonna lay the 60 odd flags we rescued from the council ripping up the pavements on his driveway

the way things work round here is rates for mates and favours for neighbours

i was pretty lucky with the transit i got mine home on the suspension wss nearly on the bump stops lol

i had a mitsy l200 on the back of an old l reg mk 5 beavertail tranny

never again i could hear the chassis creaking under the strain never mind the suspension that had bottomed out good n propper :eek::eek::eek:

that reminds me that fukker is in for a load of welding next week :D:D:D

so what route are you going with it resoration, preservation or just mot'd and legal?

ill be happy with mine being legal im not really bothered about it being pretty. my first legal drive will be to a muddy field and im gonna have it spinning all 4 to get it looking like a lany should........brown :):):)

for now i think im just gonna strip the beggar and get the chassis and running gear immaculate and the inside of the pannels minted and evrything working and looking as it shoult for the mot make it legal and ill work on the pretty bits like outer respray n things when and if we get any good warm weather this summer

as long as i know its perfectly right underneith the shiny business can wait :D:D:D:D:D

ps got a bargain today a wopping great sheet of 5 mm steel for a fiver im gonna make one bloody solid rear crossmember with that to make damn sure its not gonna buckle or owt stupid when towing as i just cannot trust a 40 yr old one and the pattern ones you get nowadays just seem a little under parr for my standards

sounds like a plan johnny!

ive had a pretty good day on mine until i knackered my cutting disc and then after a trip to b and q i fried my grinder lol lucky i had a spare!! i think ive only undone a couple of bolts today tbey have all been cut off!!

ive removed all the floors, seat box, transmision tunnel, near side wing, rear tub (too heavy to move it on my own, ill get some help tomorrow) , cills and i finally decided to unplug all tje wirs from the back of the speedo cos im gonna rewire it.

i started on the steering box but im having a bit of trouble getting off. i dont really want to beat it but i might have to get my big hammer out tomorrow. im gonna have to crack on im comming to the end of my week off (thusday to thursday). i want to get the bulkhead clear and start prepping for my dodgy welding tomorrow but the weather is starting to get to me ive been freezing my gonads today and its gonna get worse tomorrow :-(

i wish i had a garage, im doing all this on my father in laws drive. booo

similar situation here mate i only got a 10ft x 9ft shed crammed as me workshop and a small area next to that but the landy is gonna have to be in the middle of the back yard till i get it roadworthy thats why im not gonna do all the pretty work at the same time unless it works out easier and quicker to do it all together only time will tell

i have to work under a canvas when the weather gets crappy plus point is i can drop it back down and wrap it up cosy when i'm finished for the day

a 1959 88" i'm doing at the moment

burbley V8 coming out to be replaced with a 200tdi, strip the bulkhead and rebuild, front axle is almost ready to be reassembled

basically it's a full strip down, repair, straighten, replace and clean/paint, it's not mine i've been commisioned to do it by a friend since i built my 109 (Big Ears) and i think he feels guilty for having damaged this little motor so wants me to turn it into a nice affordable weekend runaround/laner/show motor

we (probably/possibly me) will later build him a cheap leafsprung bitsa that he'll keep for the more aggressive offroad stuff rather than damage this

i do like the old Series motors, only been tinkering with them for the last three years and this is my third build :D

sounds nice. i wish i had alreadybuilt 2 of them id know to buy a decent grinder lol ive used it more than my spanner/ sockets and burnt 1 out and gone through 2 full cutting discs so far!!!

have you any idea how to remove the steering box on a SIII. i have removed the nut n bolts on the bulkhead holding the column, 4 nuts n bolts holding the box on the bracket, the clamps at the bottom of the shaft and the big bolt on theshaft at right angle to the column. the whole assembly is loose but i cant seperate them. any ideas?

aah you're talking about getting the drop arm off the steering box, well that can be a pig of a job sometimes, i had to fight with this one using a two legged puller and my oxy acylene before it would release, my 109 one came off with a couple of shocks from a hammer and big drift (be careful as you can crack the housing with hammers and oxy/acetylene can bugger the seal if played in the wrong place)

there is actually a special puller for this job which is quite a robust piece of kit

the way i'd suggest you get your steering box/column off the bulkhead is for you to undo the bulkhead support from the chassis and footwell then it'll all come off in one piece

if nothing else you can then take it to someone who has the kit/knowledge to get the drop arm off

hope this helps

just got rid of my GSXR7/11 slabby fighter (i'd have liked to keep it but it just isn't getting used), got a GSXR750ws sat doing nothing on the patio and a 1976 export T140v Bonneville buried in the back of my garage

to be honest i haven't ridden a bike in at least two years and should really sell the 750ws as well

the Bonnie isn't going anywhere though :p
