I need more power from my 1.8!

Hi guys! I have just bought a 1.8 freelander I've done all the servicing stuff and head gasket, cambelt, thermostat. It runs realy well and only has 70k on it!
BUT I need more power especially up hills!

Any ideas any one? I'm on quite a tight budget but can most of the work myself.

I might try this 52mm throttle body trick one day - some say yes, some say don't bother ...if you try it let us know how you get on :)

no but i know peeps that have

it can be tuned but if the rest of the system is left standard it sprays juice in by the bucket load.

not a worthy gain after all the messing imho

anyroad why do you want more power?

mine traps along like a scalded cat most of the time and zooms in/out of traffic.

new leads, good plugs, dizzy cap, rotor arm and air filter. when these are good the car engine will run at optimum if the timings right ;)

Hills - how does yours cope with hills? - Im in 3rd gear and I keep it down to 3000 revs to save fuel, it would die in 4th on some of em - specially with a few peeps in the car...your right tho a good sorted ignition system is a must.

mines higher geared than yours due to my tyres :)

it does feel the hills when loaded but I usually go up to (and beyond sometimes) 4k revs for a while.
it won't do it any harm if the engine is warmed up correctly, this engine will freely rev up to 6.5k and was designed to run much higher than that.

3k is where you hit the "power band" changing before this on a hill is nonsense as that is when you need the extra grunt.

my advice yonks ago was for level ground regarding the 3k revs and fuel economy, but tbh i thrash the fook out of mine everywhere and it still gives me circa 27 mpg.....go figure :confused:
 
Thank for the replys guys, im looking at swapping to the vvc manifold and injectors with a sports exhaust (nothing too loud) and of course a re map!

Has anyone on here have the same set up?
how well does it work?
