The one on the right I guess, with the ! in it, if your driving and it happens only this one will come on. The other indicates an emissions problem.
Initially when you turn on the ignition, both will come on. Normally the ! one should extinguish. If it flicks back on, could be the pump, among other things..

The one on the left, indicates an emissions fault, and wont go out till you start the engine.
The one on the right, with the ! in it indicates a general management system problem..

Yeah, the one on the right with the ! in. Was okay up to 2250 rpm unless I was climbing a hill (I was towing a load as well). It was the LPFP which I changed that weekend. Best part about it all was the fuel economy I managed to achieve - 40.9mpg - on that tank.

The more I think about this problem the less I think it's injectors. If its injectors the fuel pump will still tick and pressurise the fuel lines. If the pump isn't ticking, it must be the pump, relay, or power to either line.

As for what EML means what, I'm not so sure.

Well just going from the handbook, the left one is an emissions fault, not sure what would cause that one to come on.. right hand one is a general engine management fault probably relating to abnormal or no sensor readings..
The good thing about the TD4 is that it will run the fuel pump for a good minute or so without starting the engine, handy for purging air after a filter change, and fault finding particularly in your case.

If you get that right hand light before you try to start, it knows something is wrong before it even uses the injectors, unlikely to be an injector problem.. I'm sure also if it senses low fuel supply pressure it won't let it try and start, take that bit with a pinch of salt though!!!

I have been trying to source the fuel pump relay since Friday. I have rang two guys from ebay who are "landrover parts stockists" and they have both said its a dealer part. Are they talking ****e?

If so, does anyone have a part number or place to get one please? It's for a TD4 53plate.

One of them also said 4 fuses power the relay, is this true? My Internet is limited up in otterburn otherwise I would have searched this myself.

I have been trying to source the fuel pump relay

i did a www. search .. couldn't find anything ..

the relay will be of a certain 'type' .. amp rating etc
and probably available from a car parts store .. halfords 'n such ..
you could probably take the old one in .. 'n find a replacement ..

however .. i've got to visit my local LR place at some time ..
i could ask them if they've got the relay ..
if so .. i could pick one up .. post it .. or drop it off ..
( am in w.yorks )

pm me if needed ..

Thanks very much mate. If you can get me a price, that would be very much appreciated.

I have seen a picture of the relay, it was on the bay, it certainly doesn't look like a normal relay.

Does anyone have any info on what fuse powers the LP pump?

am not too far from their address ..

( edit ..
i just noted they're selling a used item .. so see ** below

( edit again ..
better pic of same part number at rimmer.bros
http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-YWB100970
still think i'd better double check for right part at the dealers ..

~~~~~~~~
if you google that part number .. " YWB100970 "
comes up for a few vehicles ..
~~~~~~~~~

anyhow .. ** i can double check at my local LR dealer ..
parts staff be very helpful ..
will probably be there tmrw ..

i've some info here re the fuses .. shall have a look see in a few minutes

Cheers mate, that's much appreciated. If you can let me know what the dealer says the correct part number is and how much a genuine LR part is, that would be very much appreciated.

these .pdf's suggest the pump itself is 12v
and .. ..
there are a few fuses involved ..
and ..
the pump relay is interconnected with the main relay
( and inertia switch .. and the digital control modules )

page 4.35 on 'library'
http://macassemble.com/lrm/freelander/Freelander Electrical Circuits (2002).pdf

page 56 on 'circuitry' ( follow path from page end and backup to page top )
http://macassemble.com/lrm/freelander/Freelander Electrical Library (2004).pdf

~~~~~~~~~~
wondering if the pump relay and main relay are both contained in one unit ..
( can check that by looking at mine .. in daylight hours )
~~~~~~~~~

rekon first thing to do .. is check with a multimeter at the pump ..
to see IF the l.p. fuel pump itself is getting voltage ..
if yes .. then it's the pump that's at fault ..
if no .. then it be further back .. i.e. wiring / inertia switch / relay and fuses to check ..
( or both .. if a faulty pump were to cause a fuse to blow )

visited the parts dept. .. ( gave info. as .. 53 reg TD4 )

re. the fuel pump relay ..

2 different types .. depending on 'v' number ..

up to vin. YA999999 ..
it's like the relay shown here : Relay assembly engine management - normally open - Genuine MG Rover at www.rimmerbros.co.uk
( and the engine bay fuse box is rectangular )
colour of said relay 'black'

vin. 1A000001 to 3A999999
the relay looks like a cube ( like common ones found at halfords 'n such )
it's evidently coloured yellow ..
and .. the engine bay fuse box be the rectangle-with-angled-slice / almost triangular type :)

i didn't get the £price of either ..

and .. supposedly .. the part number is stamped on the relay itself ..

~~

i just changed my turbo-vent filter ..
then went to open the engine-bay fuse box .. wanted to see a possible part number
( mines a late '06 td4 hippo )
frozen fingers had trouble figuring the latch .. sorry .. came inside without looking ..

~~~~~~~
so .. to identify which relay you (might) want ..
the vin. number would be useful ..
( i've gotta go back in a day or so .. to pick up some parts on order )
What makes you say that mate?
i did a votage check some time ago but after thinking i am probably wrong it was when mine had stopped on a duel carriage way taking the wife to work the pump went , and i dremt that my car broke down and i told the wife before we started out , and she said take mine, but hers is manuel and mine is auto, so i prefer mine both are freelanders , but now i have had a later one a 2006 hse td4 auto she prefers mine. how time changes . but i still can not think where i got the 5 volts from .
Thanks very much, that's a lot of help mate, now I have a few start points!
I don't know the chassis/VIN, so I will have to wait.
I will see if I'm getting any voltage at the pump, I'm hoping its 12v.
