Hello, I finally bought a Land Rover.
I have driven thousands of miles in Series, 90/110 and Defenders but never owned one.
For a few years I have been persuading myself I don't need a Defender, after all they are noisy, slow, uncomfortable, too hot or too cold and expensive.
My wife has been trying to get me to buy something newer than the 2004 Volvo XC90 that has done sterling service for the last ten years.
I don't think she would put up with the shortcomings of a Defender but she was impressed with the D4 I took her to see.
One week later I own it, I'm busy figuring out what the buttons and all the settings in the menus do.

By and large it is very similar to the XC90 it replaces. It has a few extras, it is an HSE but it isn't unfamiliar.
The biggest difference (apart from the huge running costs) is that if I ever find myself needing a go (almost) anywhere capability I will have it, the XC90 was not designed to go off roading.
The main advantage is I now own what has to be one of the best tow cars around and this is what I bought it for, our new caravan is 1800kg and the extra power and weight of the D4 should make towing easier.

I intend to keep it for a few years at least and will probably do a couple of modifications to make it more useful/easier to live with, starting with replacing the rotten side steps, adding mud flaps and fixing the sunblind clips.
