--- even the name of this part! What's it in English?
In my first Defender (and first Land Rover ever) it's badly oxidized and corroded, surely due to the poor material (zinc alloy?)
My question is:
can I replace it with a stainless steel or good aluminium alloy part? Or is there some reason why use this kind of material?
I could easily machine a pair of these parts from some stainless steel or suitable heat treated aluminium.

Its the window hinge (well dummy window hinge actually) cos the deependers dont have fold flat windars. I believe it should be made from an Aluminium Alloy, bit it mite be made from ****e metal. Watch out for electrolytic corrosion tho.

yep it's cast aluminium. And when you undo the bolts they usually strip the threads because the steel bolts have rusted & electrolysis has destroyed the metal. If you can make The parts yourself I would highly recommend doing so.

I guess failing that you could just remove it, sandblast/wire brush it till smooth, then give it a few coats of etch primer then top coat.. sorted :)

Yu forgot helicoiling it to replace the stripped threads when the bolts are removed.

Oh yeah, forgot about the hellicoil, or i guess a cheeper solution would be just to drill a larger hole and re tap to accomodate a larger diameter bolt if possible, unless you allready own tools for installing coils. :)

My windscreen brackets looked like that before I took them off... they came off okay, but I was removing the screen and had no roof on. Paint stripper, wire brush and a rub down got them good enough to prime and hand paint. Bolted back okay with same bolts. (maybe I was lucky) Dont forget to seal them when refitting.
The seal looks in good condition, may have been replaced so bolts may come out okay.
New ones are £20 a pair but you still have to paint them so wont look much different.
