Well may as well get my first post done and now im the owner of a lovely Freelander just wanted to ask I got mine but it has the less than impressive standard LR Tape/Radio Player , are these items easy to replace with non manufacturer ICE. I want to fit a normal CD player , the speakers look not too bad as speakers go so just a head unit change , i notice its wired up to steering wheel volume control , can this be by passed ?

Basically I just want to ask if its easy to do just like most other cars ?

Any advice of an answer would be appreciated

thanks

Robsta :)

Nice one Optimus Prime I never thought of that one , I will take a further look as it looked like there was no scope to fit a CD unit unless the head gets replaced. I just wanting to fit a CD unit that plays MP3 of a disc, im a simple man and nothing too fancy for my requirements yet :)

got mine from duckworths. part number to go with phillips c42 head unit is STC53117, rang them up and got a better price than advertised in LRO magazine. came to £67 including VAT and delivery.

their telephone number is 01673 844722. Duckworth Land Rover Parts: Land rover spare part, Land rover part uk, Genuine land rover part

the instructions say you have to take the passenger seat out to fit it, but you don't, just be adept to get 4 screws in upside down. instructions are top dog clear, and it is the same as a factory fit. 6cd changer, but doesn't play mp3's (i think, never tried it)

Well like a muppet already ive put a bid for an MP3 Clarion head unit off Ebay for 30 quid . Ill rip out the inards this week but my main worry was the wiring /alarm immob if it was hooked up on that side of the electrics. I guess not as all cars ive owned have never had serious issues regarding wiring .

If i post again in a few days saying help then you know ive screwed up hehehe

Im thinking about changing the headunit in my TD5, am I right is sayuing its a double din head unit and any other double din head unit will fit, the cd changer under the seat bounces and its annoying, want to get a unit with a single slot cd and easy ipod/connect/charge facility.

Well the Clarion head unit I did not win on Ebay , i just went to Halfords yesterday and bought a new CD player from there, spoke to the lad and we checked if I needed adaptors, according to him It should plug straight in only if its H & K or something like that (forgot name of good in car sound fitted top some Landys) will there be problems.

So im away to go do the job now , i will post and let you know if it was easy , may help somebody else int he future.

Robsta :)

Edit *** Needed an adaptor , a bmw one as mine was one of the first TD4 ones , was easy to do , that adaptor cost me £13 from halfords plus an ariel adaptor too , if you want to be able to use steering whell volume/track select it costs about £35 more on 2 seperate adaptors , i opted to forget that for now
