Right! I bought a Series 3 with a ****e tdi conversion which Im trying to sort out. Have only driven in around the estate until last weekend when I did a bit of laning when discovered that the battery was'nt getting any charge. Multi meter confirmed this so I removed the alternator ready for exchange. Thought it a bit strange as the alty is quite new & apparently replaced shortly before I bought the landy.
Anyhoo, once out the saw that the po had not removed the wee pin which retains the brushes. I would imagine this was the reason the alternator was giving no charge. TRouble is, is the unit now knacked with the shaft having run against the brushes pin?
