if i had a defender...and the ground was wet under foot.......what would be the biggest (width and diameter) tha i could stick on her with say a 2" lift??

and are the 2" arch extensions a good job??

and its not just for the great aesthetics...i'm from norn iron!....its friggin wet over here!

:p

35x12.50x15/16's fit fairly easily, or 33x12.50 if you don't want to mess up your gearing too much.

Or push the boat out and get a set of the old avon treadlites (I think simex did a similar version), something like 15.5" wide!

not too worried bout the gearing........what about me shafts??

they will get violated:D

no it shouldnt be too bad i believe. of course they will be under more stress when lifted etc - but short of getting through them slightly quicker it shouldnt be a massive issue.

saying that if you got the cash for a lift and new tyres why not fork out a little more on wide angle props?

If ye want tae be goin' over wet muddy ground.. then ah've heard tale that the thinner the tyre the better;)
The thinner tyre cuts through the mud and get down to the hard as opposed tae the wider tyre that skitters ower the top of it! Like ah say, it's what ah've heard;):D

That only applies if there is hard ground to cut down to, It it's a bottomless bog, then wider is better.
That's why narrow is good in snow.

people always assume this.

but they always seem to forget that whatever tyres you are runnin you can only get down as far as your diff will allow, once your diff is bogged in the mud id dont matter what tyres you have if the hard ground is further down that that your fooked.

i run 35/10.50/16 simex centipede and they are superb for the winch challenge events but you are gonna get stuck at some point either down to driver error, extreme conditions,or not seeing that fookin great hole in the middle of the water section you decide to have a go in,im sure most of us have done it.
so basically tyre choice is a personal thing.ive tried 5 different tyure choices before settleing with the simex, they suit my needs but may not suit others

hmmmmmm.......

All valid points but my concern would be the places where the hard stuff dosnt appear. I want to put on a tyre that is chunky enuf to deal with the clobber but be able to deal with the tar as well.

I dont want to go beyond 2" lift incase it starts to affect the props etc but I do want a tall wide wheel. Thats why I am trying to gauge what size of rim and tyre will be best.

Do the extended arches help? the screw on flexible ones?? there also appears to be a simple strip which some of the more serious contenders use, is this just a home made item???

TTFN

is this the strip ya on about?
