So as above I want to invest in a press.
I'm thinking 20t will do everything I want.
Mainly landrover stuff. I'm always f*cking about with them and bushes always get left as I can't get them in.
Tried before and could I f*ck get the bush in, Ended up putting another arm on that already had a bush in.
It isn't going to be used day in day out so don't want to spend to much. But I'm sure it'll pay for it's self over the years.

So the question is has anyone tried one of the cheapo ones on ebay?
They seem to have sold a lot so they can't be that bad, But I'd rather hear it from someone that they're actually ok.
Like this.
20 Ton Tonne Heavy Duty Hydraulic Workshop Garage Shop Floor Standing Press New | eBay

Or am I better getting something a little more expensive with a pressure gauge and a proper ram as apposed to a bottle jack one.

Some thing like these.

20 Ton Industrial Hydraulic Workshop/Garage/Shop Press WITH GAUGE NEW CT190 | eBay

NEW 20 Ton Air Hydraulic Floor Shop Press H Type | eBay

Thoughts and opinions please.

Best bet is a friendly independent who has the kit and will do it for a drink, they will work their nuts off for a drink when the boss is at lunch.

Probably so for most people.
But if I start something on a weekend and then no ones open I'm f*cked. Yes I could organize it but it's just easier if I've got one in the shed. Plus I likes buying new tools :D

I'm only young so it's something I will have for along time to come.
I'm always tinkering so it should pay for it's self over the years.

buy the best you can afford matey. We have bent 10 tonne ones before pressing bearings in etc

last thing you want is to break a cheaper one then having to buy a more expensive un'

A good old school one off flea bay would be an idea if you have the means to collect it
they are made of better stuff
As long as the ram is not dented or corroded you can get them re sealed if leaking

Just an idea to consider :D

Concentrate on the Landy, that will pay itself in years. Tools are only a text away here (and so are metric, imperial, yank , and even useful ones) buy the best you can afford when you need them, AND NEVER LEND THE BUGGERS OUT.

I bought one of these last year

and I'm very pleased with it. There are some pictures of it in action in my suspension rebuild thread

The only thing that defeated it was getting the old rear ball joint out of the bracket. But this wasn't really the press's fault. It succeeded in bending the bracket though.

If I was you I'd try and get one with a proper ram and pump. I too was looking at those really cheap things that look like a bottle jack welded into a frame but I decided to go a little more upmarket.

I do remember your threads, and I've heard a lot of good stuff about the company you got yours from but they're out of my budget.

To be honest I'm leaning towards one that's at least got a proper ram and a gauge.

Yes, I've been looking at that other thread where you're rebuilding a Land Rover and just subsisting on savings. It's bad enough keeping up with mine with a full time job, so I don't know how you manage it.

Some of those things on Ebay you've found with a ram and gauge look a lot like the SGS machines but in a different colour, so would probably suffice. Looking at your other thread it seems like you'll have a lot of bushes to replace now, so hurry up and get one. You'll be glad you did.

Yeah, Theirs no doubt I want one, I'd rather be able to do everything myself instead of relying on others.
Just a mater of which to buy.

Oh and with great difficulty  Hence wanting to sell stuff. So I can afford new stuff . As I really don't like spending savings.
