Hub come off the chrome ball

Hi all. A question that needs a quick answer, 'cos I'm nervous about it. I finally got to change the last wheel bearing on my TD5 90 on the weekend - a sod of a job and I ended up cutting the old drive flange off, because it was siezed onto the splnes. It took me about five hours to get it off in the end, all told. Then another hour to clean out the hub, clean up the front face of the flange and then the splines, omne by one with a needle file, so I could get the new drive member on without any trouble, which I did. However, now I have done it, the hib assembly has come off the swivel ball (no idea how - if I did I would put it back the same way), but how the @#@#@#'# hell do I get it back on without stripping the whole thing down again please?
Obviously I can't drive the car with it unconnected so I need to get it fixed so any ideas how please?

is it inside with light and in the dry? also that would be nailsea somerset.

It's on a sloping drive, yes it's in Nailsea Somerset, can do light and if the rain stays off, I can do dry too.

No way I can get it in the garage either, up-and over door on a slope - no chance. That is true even if the garage wasn't full of stuff too.

more importantly what are your tea making skills, I will come up tonight in project pikey and have a quick look if you want

Thank you all for your help, job jobbed. It sems to have cured itself and neither of us could work out how. Mind you it's a lot quieter now than it was, as you heard Fanatic. Thank you again.

Conclusion we came to was bottom swivel bearing didn't sit fully home till weight of vehicle on it-tried crowbar under wheel and also on the deck. Zero play or roughness and a perfect test drive with no grating or indication of anything amiss.

I'd recommend swivel hub seal replaced at your nearest convenience and swivel hub bearings inspected/replaced
