Hi peeps, after a reccomendation by the AA, i had to change my distributor cap and rotor arm. piece of pXXX i know. but i disconnected the leads of the old distributor cap without noting which went where. i refered to my haynes and it says "note which leads go where" lol... i know the cap is numbered 1-4, but whether that means 1-4 from left to right on top of engine matching to the cap numbers 1-4 i dont know, it would be the obvious answer. but i dont want to try and risk it cos if its the wrong order i might cause unneceesary damage.

could someone please be kind to pop the bonnet of their 1.8 freelander and note the order. unless of course you have a manual to refer to that tells you this........

how embarassing - i hold my head down in shame.....

1,3,4,2,

Cylinder 4 being closest to the dizzy cap, 1 the furthest away. The dizzy cap should have the numbers of the appropriate lead beside each socket, all be it very small discrete numbers

now im confused, just when i thought i got it.

distributor is numbered 1-4.....

on the block facing windsceen - 1- 4 on block is from left to right.

so when you say 1-3-4-2 you mean -

no 1 on block goes to no 1 on cap

no 2 on block goes to no 3 on cap

no 3 on block goes to no 4 on cap

no 4 on block goes to no 2 on cap

or is it the other way round........

No follow the order on the cap start with 1 attach to cylinder 1, 3 to 3 and so on.

You might even find the numbers on the leads depending on brand/make. Plus the leads are just the right length so you will not be able to get it wrong

now get some tippex or similar, and put one dot on the dizzy cap at position 1 and one dot on both ends of ht lead 1and one on the block at position 1,put two dots on the dizzy cap at position 2 and two dots on both ends of ht lead 2 and two on the block at position 2,put three dots on the dizzy cap at position 3 and three dots on both ends of ht lead 3 and three dots on the block at position 3, and, wait for it:............... none on position 4 and none on ht lead 4. It's the only one without marks so it must be number 4!

lol.. the thing is, it was as simple as connecting 1-1 2-2 3-3 4-4

but the two who were giving me the guide were just confusing me more. the fact that the dis cap had the numbered 1-4 in the order of 1-3-4-2 in a clockwise motion already i didnt need to worry about that.... what a runaround......
