Dumb question alert!

With a P38 what exactly is the difference between an HSE and a vogue. I cant See anything. I get the autobiography has the headrest tv screens and the upgraded leather, tray tables and wood etc but i cant see any disernable difference otherwise lol

A Vogue was only available in 4.6 & in addition to the HSE spec has the full wood centre console & sat nav I believe.
The Autobiography can have any combination of upgrades as this was just a custom option offered.

Mine is an HSE, but still has the full wood interior. Mine is a 98MY, and I don't think the Vogue came in until a year after that. Full wood interior was an optional extra before the Vogue came in, so there are a few HSEs around with full wood and SatNav, it was just a very expensive option.

OK... Vogue came in for the 2000 MY and as far as I can tell there was no option of a 4.6 HSE at this stage, as mentioned above the Vogue was ONLY a 4.6 (so any 4.0 or 2.5 vogues are not vogues) Satnav was NOT standard on a Vogue, I have a copy of a price list which lists that navigation was available on all models apart from the basic 4.0 and 2.5DT although for the SE and HSE models the price was MORE than on a vogue as they had to have stereo upgrades as well.

So in a nut shell, a real Vogue is a 4.6 and 2000 MY onwards (with the exception of a Vogue 50 which were in 98 I think). Not guaranteed to have SatNav and will have leather (cloth not an option unlike on all other models). Price for a basic Vogue in 2001 was £53,995 + Navigation was an addition £2,000 (£2500 on a HSE and £3575 on an SE

Autobiography is basically the same as BMW individual and can be anything from a bespoke colour/trim finish to a fully customised car with picnic tables extra TV's etc. It doesn't mean the car is anything particularly amazing but it could be something special, I think that a real autobiography should have a Land Rover Special Vehicles plate. The problem is badges and stickers are easily available!

I'd love to see the orginal bill of sale for mine. It's an HSE, but came with full wood interior (but not the wood steering wheel), Harmon Kardon speaker system, four keys, and Beluga Black COB paint, which I'm told was an expensive option at the time too.

Most of these cars have had so many tinkerers by now it is pot luck what it used to be. Look at mine: supposed to be a lowest of the low DT but mysteriously has DSE or HSE interior, later indicators, different grill (I think) and I suspect the wheels may not have come with a DT either.

What makes you think it has an SE or HSE interior?

Yes but most of that was done by you! Yours isn't an HSE interior. They have electric seats, and the better stereo, and reading lights etc. You can tell what trim level it should have been by looking on microcat.

I'm pretty sure mine is standard, I'm only the 3rd owner, and the 2nd owner only had it for 4 months.

Wood in the door trims and elsewhere. And when I checked the speakers in the doors half weren't connected up and no wires in the loom to connect them up!

I see full on job then, I thought it was more the seats you were meaning! Looks like someone has had a full change over then.
