I have the dreaded M47 TD4 high pressure pump leak - Losing diesel when cold but warms up and slows/stops. I don't mind getting my hands dirty, but simply don't have the skills to tackle this.
I know it has got to be replaced, but cannot justify the price I am being quoted by the local LR specialist and am struggling to find a smaller garage that wants to even look the job.

Although I am in Kent, I am happy to travel and will pay in cash.
Would anyone be interested in sorting this for me please, or maybe recommend a garage that don't want the price of another Freelander to do it?
Cheers

GG - Christchurch is no problem, will call them tomorrow.

Arctic - Yes I heard there is a repair kit, but it is difficult to see the pump in the evenings to see where it is leaking from. I will have a good look on Saturday.
Can the o-rings and gasket be replaced in-situ, or has it got to come off anyway, because that's the bit I don't fancy doing.

Many thanks for both of your replies.

Hey GrumpyGel - I called your mate in Christchurch and told me that as diesel is so cheap now, I shouldn't worry about fixing the leak. Which doesn't really solve my problem, but at least I will save on the price of shipping the Landy half way around the world.
He also said that you are sh*t at fishing.............. :)

At first I thought you were taking the **** - but that is the attitude on a Kiwi mechanic and the statement about the fishing is true - so you must have spoken to Greg! If that's not the person you think you spoke to, its pronounced Grig :)

I'd tackle it although I've never done one.
I imagin can't be difficult to do.
I'm closer than Christchurch but still 300 miles away!!

Thanks for the thought Nodge, my parents live in Bude so I am there regularly, but strangely it has stopped leaking now the cold snap of weather has gone.
Only started when it was cold enough to freeze the windscreen and now temperature is around 10* the cardboard sheet on the floor under the engine has no drip marks (I have no undertray at present) At the weekend, I left it ticking over from cold with intermittent revving and nothing!!
I am sure it will eventually return to staining my drive so it will have to be done - Will just have to keep looking for a local garage to quote.

Cold must have distorted a cover ...
