Hey guys, im a new guy from across the pond in Ireland.
I am a big defender fan, especially big wheels, big arches and big lift:D
I never have owned one but am wanting to buy one in next few months, i unfortunetly have little knowledge about them so want to try educate myself a bit so i can buy wise so no doubt will have lots of questions.

Im not sure on what engines, etc etc to look for or avoid, problems that are specific to certain models, and what to look out for in them.
All the usual annoying New guy stuff:baby:
 
Depends if you are buying a weekend toy or a daily commute?

Old one then 200tdi or 300tdi, or a newer TD5 if its a daily. If its a toy then I challenge anybody not to have a smile on there faces driving a V8..

If your wheels are to big then you will loose power to them unless you alter the ratios in the box..
 
Tbh without sounding like a big girls blouse, its a user jeep that i would be more interested in, it wont do massive mileage but will get me to work everyday, so say 15 miles of country lanes..
I would love to say i was going to offroad it but being realistic and honest i probably never will, and most hard work it might ever do is maybe pull a car transport trailer, but that would be a very very rare thing.
Basically i want all the hardcore off roader looks and may never go off road :)

If it was a pure off road thing, then i think some form of a V8 would be very very nice

Its here in Ireland so from what i gather they are making a lot less here than over in the UK, probably 4 to 5 k euro, but there is ones out there for 3k, mainly due to the down turn here. I am confused by the prices a bit as one jeep can be 5k and a similar one can be 13k....
I not expecting a minter for the 4-5k, but would like to be more aware of the serious things to look for. Bashed wing or door etc etc wouldnt worry me.
If anyone is interested i can put up a few links to jeeps for sale here, thats if its ok by the Mods

There doesnt seem to be any problem getting them here for that tbh mate, as i said may not be mint.
