OK, now that I've fixed most of the problems that came with my RRC, I'd like to make a few little upgrades. Nothing major, just little bits and pieces!

So, first up is to make the most of that lovely V8 lump, and I'd like to release a bit more noise - nothing too offensive, just a bit 'throatier!'

What's the best and most cost-effective way to do this? An induction kit could be an option, but I run the risk of sucking in water if I go green laning, which I probably will, so should I stear clear of this?

On the exhaust front, the system is in good shape so no point replacing it, but would a new backbox make much difference? Or, cutting out the centre silencer and welding in a straight through pipe?

Any recommendations welcome!

Removing the centre box would do the trick i would think.

if funds allow put a nice new stainless steel exhaust system on it:D

Funds do not allow unfortunately - although some stainless manifolds may go on at some point!

Being a 1991 model, will it have a catalytic convertor (or pair of cats)? Haven't had a look underneath yet!

Cool! Although may fail emissions without them? Will it have them fitted as standard?

It may have, but cats are only required by law on MY 1993 and on vehicles. So there are different MOT standards for vehicles before that time. Just have a look underneath it. The cats or lack of them will be obvious.

OK, thanks.

I had a look around earlier on, and there is a small hole in the back box - easily repairable, but could be an opportunity for a stainless steel silencer and a straight through centre section!

Can anyone recommend a nice sounding aftermarket silencer?

If there ARE cats and since you don't need them for MOT I'd suggest leave the centre box in and take the cats out. Taking out the centre box might make it louder than you bargained for.

if you go on any long trips in it then it can get tiring being too noisy.

I find just letting your exhaust deteriorate naturally gives you a nice v8 burble :D

If you do take off the cats don't forget to take them to a scrap metal dealer as they are worth at least £32 a piece

Hiya, just remove the rear silencer and start it up, if you like the burble (its not very loud)
then extend the pipe. I used a piece of stainless flexi (ebay) and the bracket and short piece of pipe from the rotted silencer + 2 exhaust clamps.

for cheapish, but good quality (had some on my rrc 4 door for 4 years now, still a1) then try burton performance in london...yes i know they ford tuning shop, but they list ****e loads of aftermarket exhaust stuff...everything you need in fact..

have just a center box on the toyota v8 2 door (different engine i know, but still a v8) the rest 2 1/2 stainless with twin outlets either side...sounds lovely, burble burble, but i think too loud on long trips..tiring...and deffinatley too loud from 5000-7000rpm when it does sound like a race car ...me putting back the rear boxes, but cherry bomb type..
