Before anybody says "put the child in the back", which seems to be the most common response from my searching about this, I can't on this one journey. Usually children would be in the back, but not this one time.

So I still want the child to be as safe as possible, so that means, on a booster seat with the airbag off.

So can I do it easily? 2000 reg P38 Vogue.

Cheers

You could unplug it, but it will throw an SRS fault that will most likely need diagnostics to clear it.
Not something i would recommend.

It wasn't for a proper baby seat, for a 120cm child with a booster seat. Anyway, just fired the seat back as far as it would go and drove. Was only a few miles, and drove super slow anyway.

Thanks for the help though.

I disabled the front airbag on my old Jag for the purposes of fitting a child safety seat.

It's easy to do, and in the case of the Jag took about 10minutes once I had worked out the parts I needed.

Here's what I did.

Consulted the Jag service manual to find the correct resistance of a standard working airbag. (It was listed in the airbag faults section somewhere)

Went to Maplin and bought a resister of the correct value.

Took the glovebox off.

Disconnected the airbag.

Inserted the resister in the spade connector connections for the loom (not across the airbag terminals), and secured with a bit of electrical tape.

Put it all back together.

It worked fine for the 6 months or so we needed it. No fault codes at all. I have a look in RAVE to see if I can find the resister value.
