how , tight is your steering?

i know that i am only using one arm, with a steering knob on the wheel, but my steering has always seemed tight, i have seen people go from lock to lock, on other cars with power steering, just using the palm of one hand, i have had all steering joints,column, dampers renewed, still no diff. also, i have noticed, that there is no noise, when you get to full lock(in either direction)
is there any adjustment, or special way of bleeding?

i would get some one to operate steering and check the pump doesnt stop when steering is operated.

also if the pump wasnt working at all i'd struggle to turn it with two hands!!

i suspect the pump is worn and not working efficiently.

also check tyres are ok and inflted but mine is easy with engine running and stationary.

the steering box can be adjusted there is a 17mm nut with a 5 or 4 mm allan key screw in the middle of the nut,clockwise tightens the box anti clockwise loosens it,but i would follow gavs procedere first,i did all of that and found that my steering box was knackered so i fitted a new one and it,s been ok since.
i have a spare steering pump of a 2000 v8 thor engine if anyone is interested,as i changed mine thinking it was that but it wasn,t

i forgot to say, i have had the car for over 8 years, and it has always been the same, surely, if the box or pump were knackered , it would have failed an mot by now.
is there supposed to be any play at the steering wheel
(1) with engine not running.
(2) with engine running.
if play is allowed, how much is allowed, or do you need the front wheels off the ground ,to set the steering box?
tyre pressures set at 28 front, 38 rear
tracking set right( checked when new tyres fitted)
standard 16" wheels and tyres fitted.

my tyres are 34 all round! kwik fit did em!!

never understood why tyres on the front are lower than the back, after all its got to be heavier at the front hasnt it?

I suppose it's so that one doesn't have to get one's mits grubby pumping 'em up and down everytime you put a load in the back or a trailer on. I agree with you though. Normal running would suggest 28 all round if no loads etc envisaged.
